Day 1: Ancient Rome
Your Roman adventure gets off to the best possible start.
In the morning, settle in comfortably on board the bus for a panoramic tour of the Eternal City.
Valid for 24 hours, this pass allows you to enjoy the tour as often as you like, with its 8 strategic stops. Let the audio commentary—available in 12 languages—guide you as you effortlessly admire Rome’s most beautiful monuments passing by. You also have the option to upgrade your ticket to a Hop-On Hop-Off version, allowing you to get on and off freely at each stop as you please.
In the afternoon, immerse yourself in history with your entry ticket to the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill – three must-see sites combined into a single ticket. Walk in the footsteps of the gladiators in the Colosseum’s arena, explore the majestic ruins of the Roman Forum at the heart of ancient Rome, then climb the Palatine Hill for a breathtaking view of the entire archaeological site. Allow 2½ to 3 hours to fully enjoy this immersion in antiquity.
In the evening, head to the lively Testaccio district for a well-deserved aperitif, before enjoying dinner at a local trattoria featuring the great classics of Roman cuisine: carbonara, cacio e pepe and saltimbocca.
Included: Ticket for the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill
Day 2: The Rome of the Popes
This day is entirely devoted to papal and Baroque Rome.
First thing in the morning, immerse yourself in the vastness of the Vatican Museums, a tour of which concludes with the awe-inspiring Sistine Chapel and the majestic St Peter’s Basilica; remember to book your tickets well in advance, as this is one of the most visited sites in the world.
After lunch in the lively Prati district, just a stone’s throw from the Vatican, spend the afternoon at Castel Sant’Angelo, a former papal fortress offering splendid views over the Tiber, before heading to the magnificent Piazza Navona and its Bernini fountains.
In the evening, settle down for an aperitif in Campo de’ Fiori, one of Rome’s liveliest squares, then dine in the Jewish quarter where carciofi alla giudia, Roman-style fried artichokes, are an absolute must.
Optional: Tickets for the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel (online booking recommended)
Day 3: Romantic Rome
On your last day, get up early to visit the Trevi Fountain before the crowds fill the square, and don’t forget to toss a coin in to ensure you’ll return to Rome.
Then head up to the Piazza di Spagna and its famous Spanish Steps, perfect for a coffee break in the sunshine. In the afternoon, treat yourself to a visit to the Borghese Gallery, home to one of the world’s finest collections of Bernini sculptures and Caravaggio paintings, before strolling through the shaded gardens of the Villa Borghese.
Round off your stay in style by heading up to the Pincio to admire the sunset over the rooftops of Rome, then sit down for a final dinner in the trendy Monti district, amongst cobbled streets and fashionable restaurants.
Optional: Tickets for the Borghese Gallery (booking required, very limited slots)
Before you leave
If you have time on the morning of your departure, pop into the Pantheon as soon as it opens, when the light filters through the oculus and illuminates the building in a unique way.
Then stop off at the legendary Sant’Eustachio il Caffè for one last Roman espresso before hitting the road.
Rome isn’t a place to be visited, it’s a place to be experienced, and three nights will certainly be no more than enough to fall under its spell.
