Mumbai Tour —
You will enjoy a 3 night stay at Fariyas Hotel in a Standard Room, with Bed & Breakfast dining.
Bombay, or Mumbai, is the capital of Maharashtra and the economic powerhouse of India. It’s the fastest moving, most affluent and the most industrialised city in India. Yet, once upon a time, Bombay was nothing more than a group of low-lying, swampy and malarial mud flats presented to the British by its Portuguese occupiers as a wedding gift in 1661. Spend the day at your leisure.
Overnight at the hotel.
Optional Tour: Khau Gully (Street Food)
'Khau Gully’ literally translates as the food lane. This tour takes you into the heartland of Mumbai’s street food and gives you cultural insights into the city. You will get to sample some delicious treats amidst colourful street stalls at Girgaon, Chowpatty, take a sip of tea in a hundred-year-old Irani Cafe and a bite of colourful snow cones among other street knick-knacks.
Please note: This tour includes purely vegetarian dishes.
After breakfast, you will leave for the excursion to Elephanta Island with your guide. The island of Elephanta is an hour away from Mumbai. The cave temples here were excavated between the 5th and 8th centuries AD are famous for their magnificently sculpted panels. The best known is the one that depicts the Maheshmurti – a three-headed image of Lord Shiva, which signifies the creator, preserver and destroyer of this universe as per Hindu mythology. The Portuguese named this island after a large stone elephant that was found near the landing. The elephant now stands at the Victoria and Albert Museum on the mainland.
In the afternoon, enjoy the other half day tour of Mumbai city. The tour starts from the Gateway of India. Next, visit Prince of Wales Museum (Closed on Monday). It is the main museum in Mumbai, formerly Bombay. It was founded in the early years of the 20th century by prominent citizens of Bombay, with the help of the government, to commemorate the visit of the then Prince of Wales. The museum houses approximately 50,000 exhibits of ancient Indian history as well as objects from foreign lands, categorised primarily into three sections: Art, Archaeology and Natural History.
You will be then driven along Marine Drive, the seafront Boulevard. Your first stop will be the Jain Temples, built of marble and dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankara. From the temples, you will be driven along Malabar Hill via the Tower of Silence. From here one can get a panoramic view of picturesque Marine Drive. From Malabar Hill, you will be driven to the Dhobi Ghats (if time permits).
Overnight at the hotel.
After breakfast, you will proceed to The Mumbai Dream: a world full of experiences inspired by Bollywood for tourists around the world. The aim of the tour is to ensure that the guests understand the madness that is Bollywood films and television.
The tour involves exclusive workshops around the topics of Bollywood dancing and sound recording. Learn some dances and interact with professionals in the entertainment industry including actors, journalists, musicians and dancers that provide stories and knowledge of the Bollywood industry.
