Your Destination —
In many ways Reykjavík is strikingly cosmopolitan for its size. After all, it's merely a town by international standards, and yet it's loaded with excellent museums, captivating art, rich culinary choices, and funky cafes and bars. When you slip behind the shiny tourist-centric veneer (it is a great base for tours to the countryside) you'll find a place and a populace that mix aesthetic-minded ingenuity with an almost quaint, know-your-neighbours sense of community.
Add a backdrop of snow-topped mountains, beautiful coastline and crystal-clear air, and you, like many visitors, may fall helplessly in love, returning home already saving to come back.

Your Itinerary —
Day 1. Arrival
Once you have landed at Keflavik Airport in Iceland, please pick up your luggage. Take the FlyBus Plus airport shuttle transfer to Hótel Ísland. Remember to let the FlyBus representative on the bus know what hotel you are using for drop-off.
Please note that hotel check-in cannot be guaranteed before 14.00 (2:00pm)
The rest of the day is open for your own activities. We suggest a walk in the Old Town area with galleries, museums, restaurants and pubs. A visit to one of the city´s geothermal swimming pools is a great way to shake off jetlag and a very Icelandic activity. It is also a great way to meet Icelanders.
The Hotel Island is within walking distance of the Laugardalslaug Swimming Pool, the largest swimming pool in Reykjavík. This is a great place to relax and also to meet Icelanders. You can also use your admission to the hotel´s new Heilsa Spa where you can relax. The luxury Spa includes a hot and cold tub, small floating pool, sauna and relaxed and modern atmosphere. There are also treatments available (not included, but can be booked with the spa).
Day 2. Relaxing Spa Evening and Northern Lights Hunt
Enjoy the delicious breakfast at the Hótel Ísland. The day is yours to spend as you like. Perhaps you might like to try a fun activity in the morning like horseback riding in a lava field or driving a four-wheel buggy vehicle in the Icelandic countryside. Or perhaps you will join a cooking class (instruction in English) and learn how to make delicious New Nordic cuisine!
Please make sure that you are waiting outside the hotel at 17.30 for pick up for your evening northern lights and spa tour. (Please remember to bring your swimsuit and towel, but you can rent them at the spa, too). A short drive takes you to the famous resort village of Laugarvatn. The town is known for its hot springs, including a geothermal lake. This hot water and various hot springs is used by the residents for cooking, bathing, geothermal heating and soothing steam baths. Since the 1920s the town has been a favourite for its natural steam baths.
In 2011, the steam bath area was developed into the Laugarvatn Fontana Geothermal baths. Here you can enjoy the chance to experience genuine steam bath cabins that will soothe you and relax you. The cabins are built over hot spring steam vents, so you will experience the pure, cleansing, steam as it comes from the earth itself. You can also relax in one of several geothermal pools around the facility and the Fontana‘s dry sauna. Spa guests can also walk down to the nearby geothermal lake and take a dip in the water, a true Icelandic experience! Afterwards, enjoy a delicious Icelandic buffet dinner featuring specialities and ingredients, including the spa‘s own sweet rye bread that is baked in a natural geothermal oven. This is perfect when eaten with fresh Icelandic butter.
Afterwards, if the weather is cooperating, take a northern lights hunt in search of the beautiful and elusive Aurora Borealis lights. Return to your hotel in Reykajvík around midnight.
Day 3. Day for Own Activities
Breakfast at your hotel. Today is open for your own activities in Reykjavík or on a day tour. Perhaps you will enjoy a visit to the amazing Golden Circle area of natural wonders. Maybe you‘ll visit the world-famous Blue Lagoon. Take a trip along the amazing volcanic and black sand beach of the South Shore. Or try the once-in-a-lifetime “Into the Glacier“ experience where you can walk into a glacial tunnel and see how glaciers look from the inside! We recommend tonight that you speak with your hotel front desk staff to find out the best departure of the FlyBus to take. The hotel staff can also arrange for the FlyBus to pick you up from the hotel tomorrow.
