The Golden Circle & Northern Lights (For 3, 4, 5 & 7-Night Stays)

Explore a few of Iceland‘s most famous landmarks on Golden Circle Direct as well as go on a search for the northern lights in one day.

This Golden Circle Direct tour starts from BSÍ Bus Terminal at 10:30 and lasts approximately six hours. On the tour you will visit three of Iceland´s most famous sites: Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall and Þingvellir National Park.

Geysir is the place from which all other geysers in the world get their name. The famous Geysir does not erupt anymore but the smaller impressive, Strokkur erupts every 4-8 minutes and shoots a column of water up to 40 metres up in the air.

Gullfoss waterfall is a part of the glacial river Hvítá which gets its water from Langjökull glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland. The step-waterfall is quite the sight, and from many viewpoints it looks like the waterfall falls straight into an abyss, but in reality, it falls into a crevice which is 32 metres deep.

The last stop of the day is at Þingvellir where you can see the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates above ground.

You will arrive back within Reykjavík city limits approximately at 16:30. You will have a few hours to spend before you join our Northern Lights tour either at 21:00 (16 Oct – 14 March) or at 22:00 (25 August – 15 October & 15 March – 15 April).

The northern lights, also known as aurora borealis, are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole.

We will take you out of the city for the best possible view of the lights. The locations visited during the Northern Lights tour vary from day to day depending on weather conditions. Because this tour is weather dependent, sightings are not guaranteed. However, if you do not see any northern lights during this tour, you are welcome to join the tour again, free of charge.

Indicated return times may vary if the northern lights activity is good, but we should be back in Reykjavík three to four hours after the tour starts. Please note that if you have booked a pick up for the tours, it starts 30 minutes before tours´ departure from BSÍ Bus Terminal.

This tour is ideal for nature lovers of all kinds. We take you along the south coast of Iceland, one of the country’s most scenic regions, as far as Vík, a charming village surrounded by high beautiful bird cliffs.South Iceland is special for that it is one of the flattest regions on the island. Because of that, most of all grain farming in Iceland is done there. The high mountains to the north, shield the area from the harshest winds from the north.

Among the stops on this tour are at the gorgeous Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss is part of the Seljandsá river, which has its origins in Eyjafjallajökull glacier. What makes Seljalandsfoss so famous and interesting is that you can walk behind it. We recommend you bring either a raincoat or a waterproof coat along if you want to walk behind it. Skógafoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall, is the starting point of the Fimmvörðuháls walk over to Þórsmörk. The waterfall was also used in the films Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

We will also stop at Reynisfjara black sand beach, with the Reynisdrangar rock formations and columnar basalt. It is one of the most spectacular beaches in Iceland but can be dangerous, and we kindly ask our guests not to go too close to the ocean and go by guidelines. Additionally, we will stop by Sólheimajökull and walk up to a small lake which has formed in front of the retreating glacier. Tour duration: 09:00 – 19:30.

Spoil yourself by bathing in the famous Blue Lagoon on your visit to Iceland. Reykjavik Excursions offer great flexibility in Blue Lagoon tours. After having enjoyed all that the Blue Lagoon has to offer, you can either return to Reykjavík or be dropped off at Keflavík International Airport (KEF). Please note that admission to the Blue Lagoon is not included and must be booked in advance.

Whale Watching (For 7-Night Stays)

The ocean around Iceland is home to some the most magnificent creatures on Earth. This tour will give you the possibility of seeing whales in their natural habitat as well as the rich and thriving birdlife Iceland has to offer. You might see some spectacular behavioural displays from breaching humpbacks to spinning dolphins and graceful minke whales.

Within the whale watching area is a diverse seabird population, including the hard diving gannets and clumsy, yet adorable looking puffins (1 May – 15 Aug).These tours are educational and interactive. On each tour passengers get to see and feel whale teeth and bones, get a chance to see specimens straight from the ocean and take part in Special Tours whale research!Focus is on comfort and personal service while making sure the environment is protected and respected in every way possible. You will also find skilled & friendly crew on board and the guides are very experienced.

Golden Circle & Langjökull Snowmobiling

First, you will stop at Þingvellir National Park which is known for its exceptional beauty and historical importance. Þingvellir is as well a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The second stop is at the high-temperature geothermal area known as Geysir, with its numerous spouting hot springs. From there we drive to Langjökull where we take a one hour exhilarating snowmobile tour on the vast white snowcap. On our way back to Reykjavík we stop by the stunning Gullfoss waterfall. Tour duration: 09:00 - 19:00.

Due to sudden and unexpected weather changes the snowmobile ride might be cancelled after tour´s departure from Reykjavík.
