Your Destinations —
This winter break will take you to some of the countries highlights, including the awe-inspiring Northern Lights and a hop on hop off bus tour around the cosmopolitan city of Reykjavik, which you can explore at your own pace.
The old harbour is the heart and soul of Reykjavík. With a backdrop of majestic Mount Esja and the beautiful Faxafloi Bay, you’ll find world-class restaurants, cutting-edge galleries, funky cafés, and quirky shops. With it all, you’re still at the heart of a working harbour, where you can watch ships come in with their daily catches.
For stunning views of the city climb up Hallgrímskirkja Church tower or visit the pearl - an otherworldly creation with a viewing platform and a revolving restaurant on top of hot water storage tanks.
Your Itinerary —
Once you have landed at Keflavik Airport in Iceland, please pick up your luggage. Transfer on your own to Hotel Island in Reykjavík. We recommend the FlyBus Plus transfer, which takes you from the airport to BSÍ bus terminal and then on to your hotel.
The rest of the day is open for your own activities. We suggest a walk in the Old Town area with galleries, museums, restaurants and pubs. A visit to one of the city´s geothermal swimming pools is a great way to shake off jet lag and a very Icelandic activity.
It is also a great way to meet Icelanders. The Hotel Ísland is within walking distance of the popular Laugardalslaug geothermal pool, the largest one in Reykjavík, and also plays host to its own spa!
In the area of the hotel are the year-round botanical gardens and the intriguing Ásmundur Sveinsson sculpture museum. There are many restaurants located within walking distance, and the hotel now has a fantastic restaurant serving contemporary cuisine.
The hotel is about a 20-minute easy walk to Laugavegur, the main shopping street and the Hlemmur area, which is emerging as a cool place for pubs, restaurants and musical entertainment. Overnight at your hotel.
Enjoy the delicious and plentiful breakfast at the Hotel Island. Today is yours to explore the city of Reykjavík at your own pace.
Make your own way to the iconic Harpa Concert Hall, the starting point of the famous Reykjavík Hop on/Hop Off City Tour (it is also possible to board the Hop on/Hop Off buses at the Hilton Nordica Hotel, which is about 5 minutes’ walk from the Hotel Ísland). You can decide when you want to start the tour, as there are departures from Harpa every half hour between 9:30 and 16:30.
Taking this audio-guided tour (8 languages available) is an ideal way to explore Reykjavik city and great landmarks such as Harpa, the Old Harbour, and Hallgrimskirkja Church. The tour allows you to hop on and off as you please and cover the city’s attractions at your own pace. This means you can choose to visit those places where you’d like to spend more time.
Your pass is good for a whole day (valid 24-hours from the first use) so you can leisurely explore the world´s most northern capital at your own pace. Reykjavik is a modern vibrant city offering a whole range of interesting places to check out. Because the bus runs every thirty minutes you never have to wait, and the views from the top of the double-decker bus are the best in town!

Optional Excursions
You may choose to add the following excursions at the next stage of the booking process. These are bookable for stays of 3 nights or more with a maximum of one excursion per day.
The Gullfoss and Geysir bus tour takes you on a day trip to see the world-famous Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss, the queen of Icelandic waterfalls, as well as Thingvellir National Park.
The Geysir geothermal area boasts spouting springs, including Strokkur, the most active geyser in Iceland. At Gullfoss you are given the opportunity to stand next to the amazing waterfall, watching enormous quantities of water tumble violently into a deep, meandering gorge.
Whether you take the morning or the afternoon tour, you will spend your time encountering a cross-section of Iceland's natural wonders and geological phenomena at Thingvellir National Park, an area of historical and geological significance.
This tour includes relaxation, local culinary experience and an exciting northern lights hunt. You will drive via the UNESCO site Þingvellir National Park towards Laugarvatn Fontana, where you can nourish body and soul by bathing in the geothermal bath on a cosy evening. Afterwards, get a boost of energy from a local style dinner buffet before going on a northern lights hunt en route back to Reykjavik. Tour duration: 18:00 - 00:30.
This tour is ideal for nature lovers of all kinds. You will be taken along the south coast of Iceland, one of the country’s most scenic regions, as far as Vík, a charming village surrounded by high beautiful bird cliffs.
South Iceland is special for that it is one of the flattest regions on the island. Because of that, most of all grain farming in Iceland is done there. The high mountains to the north, shield the area from the harshest winds from the north.
Among the stops on this tour are at the gorgeous Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss is part of the Seljandsá river, which has its origins in Eyjafjallajökull glacier. What makes Seljalandsfoss so famous and interesting is that you can walk behind it. We recommend you bring either a raincoat or a waterproof coat along if you want to walk behind it. Skógafoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall, is the starting point of the Fimmvörðuháls walk over to Þórsmörk. The waterfall was also used in the films Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
You will also stop at Reynisfjara black sand beach, with the Reynisdrangar rock formations and columnar basalt. It is one of the most spectacular beaches in Iceland but can be dangerous, and we kindly ask our guests not to go too close to the ocean and go by guidelines. Additionally, you will stop by Sólheimajökull and walk up to a small lake which has formed in front of the retreating glacier. Tour duration: 09:00 – 19:30.
