Game of Thrones
The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky.
The Northern lights are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis.
The season for Northern Lights in Iceland extends from the tail end of the summer from September through winter and well into April. The best time to see Northern Lights is in the middle of winter when the weather is the coldest and when it is the darkest. Crisp cold evenings with skies clear enough to see stars is a prime indicator for auroral activity.
The Golden Circle needs little introduction: it includes some Iceland's most stunning sights. You will see the hot spring Strokkur shoot a column of water up to 30 metres (98 ft.) into the air every 4-8 minutes - a thrilling experience that just never gets old.
You will also visit the magnificent Gullfoss (Golden Falls) waterfall, created where the river Hvita tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 32 m (105 ft.) deep. Our tour also includes the historical and geological wonder that is Pingvellir National Park, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart at a rate of a few centimetres per year.
Game of Thrones
Walk in beautiful Icelandic nature and in the footsteps of your favourite “Game of Thrones” characters. If you’re a lover of rich, family sagas, Iceland is the country for you and if you like your drama as deep and dark as some of Iceland’s glacial lakes you’ll love this new tour. Filmed in Iceland, the TV series “Game of Thrones” has showcased some of the country’s most breath taking scenery and we’ve crafted a special tour that takes you to the these sites.
Walk in the footsteps of your favourite characters and get up close and explore the locations used in this gripping drama. We’ve prepared this tour under careful guidance from an Icelandic actor on the program, who unsurprisingly died a violent death at the hands of the Wildlings.
We journey to the dramatic gorge at Þingveillir – the stomping ground of the White Walkers and the trail of the Wildlings from “north of the Wall.” You’ll be able to soak up the raw and dramatic atmosphere provided by the magnificent nature at Þingveillir and get to know the symbolic significance of the setting in context to the plot. We also explore Þjórsárdalur and the “Settlement Era Viking Lodge” – the location of the greatest massacre and most elaborate scene of the series so far. Indulge your imagination and your senses and soak up some Icelandic natural beauty in this new tour. As an extra bonus, you can also see locations used in other the films “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”.
Tour Details: The tour leaves Reykjavík at 13.00 and returns at 19.00. PICK UP 12:30
