We Love —
- More of an adventure than a tour, you'll be escorted from Iceland's capital Reykjavik to some of Iceland's most iconic natural attractions, staying in picturesquely located hotels along the way
- By day you'll see Geysirs and Glaciers; waterfalls up close and personal; volcanos in the distance plus the surreal Jokulsarlon Iceberg Lagoon - the 4 times Hollywood set for James Bond, Batman and Tomb Raider's Lara Croft
- Every night the Icelandic folkloric saying 'if you don’t like the weather, wait a bit' turns from myth to reality with any cloud likely to clear quickly to reveal the Northern Lights
Your Tour —
Sit back and spend your Iceland holiday discovering the island's legendary geological icons and your nights under a canopy of stars spotting the Aurora. Take in the Geyser that gave the world the name; Gullfoss the Golden Fall; Jokulsarlon, the iceberg lagoon and the unpronounceable Eyjafjallajokull, which erupted with such spectacular consequences in 2010. And each night max out your chances of seeing the legendary Aurora.
Your Itinerary —
Fly to Keflavik International Airport from the UK and transfer on arrival to the Hotel Natura. Spend the evening as you will with discounted supper options at restaurants MAR or Kopar.
Day 2: Thingvellir - Geysir - Gullfoss
Northern Lights Center - National Park with Geological Wonders (UNESCO) - Exploding Geysers - The Famous Golden Falls
Start the day by visiting the recently opened and fascinating Northern Lights Centre in Reykjavik for an exciting and informative presentation on the Northern Lights.
Onwards to Thingvellir National Park (UNESCO) where the world's oldest parliament met for centuries on the shores of Iceland's largest lake. We then drive to Laugarvatn Fontana where we experience a geothermal bakery first hand and dig up bread that has been cooked underground. After the tour, sample the delicious bread, served hot from the ground with some butter.
Continue through farmland areas to the geothermal fields of Geysir with bubbling mud pools and high spouting Strokkur hot spring. Last but not least visit the dramatic two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall, a spectacular sight in winter when frozen mid-cascade.
Overnight at Hotel Fludir.
Waterfalls - Eyjafjallajökull Volcano Visitor Centre - Volcanic Aftermath - Black Sand Beaches
Spend the day exploring the area close to the towering, stratovolcano Eyjafjallajokull, unpronounceable but probably the most famous volcano in the world today. At the Volcano Visitor Centre at Thorvaldseyri Farm, at the foot of the Volcano, you will be able to see, both in pictures and on film, the eruption, its impact on the countryside, the country itself and the whole world.
Visit a working Icelandic farm before driving along the south shore before making stops at the spectacular waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. Onwards to Reynisfjara beach, viewing the extraordinary rock formations and thundering waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
Overnight stay at Hotel Klauster and Northern Lights Hunt in the area.
Day 4: Skaftafell National Park - Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon
Europe's Largest National Park - Glacial Lagoon with Icebergs - Europe's Largest Glacier
After breakfast set off for Skaftafell National Park, one of Iceland's most outstanding areas of natural beauty dominated by the glacier Vatnajokull, Europe's largest ice cap. Continue to Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon where you can enjoy a breathtaking sight of floating icebergs on the fantastic 180m deep glacial lagoon.
Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Greenhouse Village - Thundering Waves - Geothermal Lagoon
Head towards the village of Hveragerdi which is one of the few sites in the world located directly on top of a geothermal area. Hveragerdi is often called "the flower village" because of its many greenhouses heated by hot water from nearby springs. The tour continues to Strandarkirkja a church popularly believed to have a special power to aid success or provide good luck. Continue along the coast with breathtaking sea waves through a community once flourishing and now deserted.
Continue to the Reykjanes peninsula where we enjoy a dip in the famous Blue Lagoon (Blue Lagoon bathing fee not included), which is a unique wonder of nature with pleasantly warm mineral rich geothermal water in a middle of a black lava field.
Return to Reykjavik and overnight at Hotel Natura.
