Your Itinerary —
Day 1: After your arrival at Keflavík international airport you can take the bus to your hotel (which will be allocated at a later date)
Start the day by visiting the recently opened Northern Lights Center in Reykjavik for an exciting and informative presentation on the Northern Lights.
Onwards to Thingvellir National Park (UNESCO) where the world's oldest parliament met for centuries on the shores of Iceland's largest lake. You will then be driven to Laugarvatn Fontana where you will experience a geothermal bakery first hand and dig up bread that has been cooked underground. After the tour, you will sample the delicious bread, served hot from the ground with some creamy Icelandic butter.
You will continue through farmland areas to the geothermal fields of Geysir with bubbling mud pools and the reliably erupting Strokkur hot spring. Last but not least, you will visit the dramatic two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall, a spectacular sight in winter when frozen mid-cascade.
Overnight in the south coast area.
You will spend this day exploring the region close to the towering, volcano Eyjafjallajokull, which is probably the most famous volcano in the world today. At the Volcano Visitor Centre at Thorvaldseyri Farm, located beneath Eyjafjallajokull, you will be able to see, both in pictures and on film, the eruption and its impact on the nearby countryside, the country itself and the world.
You’ll then visit a modern Icelandic grain farm where milk and beef are also produced. Following the coast line, you will make a stop at the spectacular waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. Then it’s onwards to Reynisfjara beach, viewing the extraordinary rock formations and thundering waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
Overnight stay and Northern Lights hunt in Kirkjubaejarklaustur area.
Skaftafell National Park is one of Iceland's most outstanding areas of natural beauty. It is dominated by the glacier Vatnajokull, Europe's largest ice cap. You’ll continue to Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, where you can enjoy a breathtaking sight of floating icebergs on the 180-metre deep glacial lagoon.
Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
You will head towards the village of Hveragerdi, which is one of the few sites in the world located directly on top of a geothermal area. Hveragerdi is often called "the flower village" because of its many greenhouses heated by hot water from nearby springs. The tour continues to Strandarkirkja, a church believed to have a special power to aid success or provide good luck. Then you will follow the snaking coastline past rich farming fields and deserted communities, with breathtaking sea waves to your left.
You’ll drive to the Reykjanes peninsula, where in the middle of a desolate lava field you’ll enjoy a dip in the famous Blue Lagoon (Blue Lagoon bathing fee not included), which is a unique wonder of nature with pleasantly warm mineral-rich geothermal water.
Return to Reykjavik, where the evening is at your own leisure.
Day 6: You will be transferred to Keflavik international airport for your flight home.
