Day 4: Belize
The colourful Caribbean city of Belize City is found on the east coast at the mouth of the Belize River. Spend time in the nation's favourite port with its Cayo District caves, the Maya archaeological sites, wooden colonial houses and quaint narrow streets.
Do not miss St John's Cathedral, built in 1847 and the oldest, most important Anglican Church in Central America, or the famous lighthouse, which marks the grave of the Portuguese Baron, a man who left a great fortune to Belize. Or perhaps venture further afield to explore ancient Mayan cities. Includes breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Blessed with powdery-white sand beaches, stunning natural scenery and lusciously rich tropical forests, Roatan Island is a paradise for beach and nature lovers alike. Set amidst the beautiful Bay Islands and lapped by warm clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, Roatan rests on an exposed ancient coral reef off the north coast of Honduras. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Today, your cruise ship docks in Costa Maya on the Yucatan Peninsula. A destination purpose built to accommodate cruise ships. Resembling an ancient Mayan city this resort consisting of three pavilions that provide beach clubs, saltwater pools, fine restaurants, bars and shops. There is plenty of opportunity to join an optional excursion to experience the beautiful turquoise seas or explore the Mexican jungle. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Also known as Isla de Pinos (Isle of Pines), most of Isla de la Juventud is dedicated to the preservation of nature. Punta Frances National Park runs along the southern coast of the island and has been protecting the Cuban sea species for over 30 years.
It preserves an astounding wildlife – American crocodiles, lizards, elusive manatees, butterflies – and a dry tropical forest with the largest parrot population of Cuba.
There is over 3km of beach in all, split by a sandy headland into two broad curves of silver, powdery shore ringed on one side by the lush green of a woody, palm-specked thicket and on the other by the glassy, brilliant turquoise of the Caribbean Sea. The deserted tranquility of this private world is all part of what makes it exceptional. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Please note: a re-entry visa is required for entry to Cuba after the cruise, this can be purchased at the marina for approx. £15
