Your Destination

Ras Al Khaimah is renowned for its pristine natural attractions, dramatic red mountains and lush agriculture. Here, eco-explorers can seek adventure in activities such as falconry, camel riding, hiking and trekking, wadi (desert) safaris, and excursions in Arabic sailboats. One of the most physically-demanding and spectacular hikes in the UAE, Wadi Ghalilah, also known as the Stairway to Heaven can be found in Ras Al Khaimah.

With a heritage rich with historical sites dating back to 5,000 BC, Ras Al Khaimah is an archaeologist’s playground with its numerous forts and abandoned villages. The former residence of the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah is today home to the National Museum. Housing numerous collections of ancient pottery, fossils, shells and old coins, the museum is a must-visit for history buffs. You are also only a short drive from Dubai if you fancy some world-class shopping or exuberant nightlife.

Travel Advice

For the latest travel advice from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office including security and local laws, plus passport and visa information please click here.

Please note that the advice can change and consumers should continue to check it until they travel.

Entry Requirements

You must ensure you have a valid passport to travel on.

If you’re a British Citizen you can get a visitor’s visa on arrival in the UAE. In the past, this visa has allowed the visitor to stay in the UAE for up to 30 days. The visa has terminated automatically on departure and a new visa issued on arrival each time the same visitor returns to the UAE.

That approach continues to be applied in most cases, but in some cases, British citizens (and visitors of some other nationalities) who have left the UAE and returned again within the 30 day period of stay granted at the time of the first arrival, haven’t received a new visa. Instead, their stay has been limited to the initial 30 day period.

If you have any questions on the validity or expiry of your visa, contact UAE Immigration directly in Dubai on 04-3980000 or in Abu Dhabi on 02-4024500. If you’re residing outside the UAE, contact the nearest UAE Embassy for advice.

Local Laws and Customs

UAE laws and customs are very different to those in the UK. Be aware of your actions to ensure that they don’t offend, especially during the holy month of Ramadan or if you intend to visit religious areas. There may be serious penalties for doing something that might not be illegal in the UK. You are strongly advised to familiarise yourself with, and respect local laws and customs.

Health

Visit your health professional at least 8 weeks before your trip to check whether you need any vaccinations or other preventive measures.

Certain prescribed and over the counter medicines that are available in the UK but not in the UAE may not be able to be brought into the country without prior permission from the UAE Ministry of Health.

Following changes in October 2018, it is now a requirement for everyone entering the UAE to complete an electronic form to obtain approval to carry medication for personal use.

For more information on controlled medicines please see the UAE Ministry of Health Website or Gov.UK.

Cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus in patients from the United Arab Emirates have been reported to the World Health Organization. There have also been cases of Legionnaires’ disease among British nationals who have recently travelled from Dubai. For the latest information and advice, see the website of the National Travel Health Network and Centre(NaTHNaC).

Please note that passport, visa and health requirements can change. It is every traveller’s responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport, any required visas, and all the necessary vaccinations/health requirements as well as adequate insurance.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Please note: Due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the UK Government is currently requesting that all travellers returning to the UK, (with exceptions), must provide their journey and contact details up to 48 hours before arrival. The United Arab Emirates will be taken off the UK’s travel corridor list, meaning travellers returning from the destination on or after 12 January will have to quarantine for 10 days. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) currently advises British nationals against all but essential international travel, and this advice is also being kept under constant review.

Please note that a travel insurance covering health costs in the event of coronavirus infection is mandatory.
