This rainforest is located in south-western Uganda, at the junction of the plain and mountain forests. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park covers 32,000 hectares and is known for its exceptional biodiversity, with more than 160 species of trees and over 100 species of ferns.
Many types of birds and butterflies can also be found there, as well as endangered species, including the mountain gorilla. There are 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift endemic birds (rare birds native only to the Rift Valley) including the African green broadbill and bar-tailed trogon.
Chameleon Hill Lodge is a peaceful and exclusive retreat on the shores of Lake Mutanda, adjacent to Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks. It features ten luxury en-suite chalets, with stunning views across the lake and the Virunga Volcanoes mountain range.

DAY 3: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
After an energising breakfast, embark on your gorilla trek. Before 8 am, report to the ranger station for registration and briefing by one of the rangers. The guides will then lead you through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track the gorillas.
The trek can take anywhere from half an hour to 7 hours – a reasonable degree of fitness is required, as well as a sturdy pair of walking boots. Sitting in the dense rainforest, knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas (only 650 left in the wild), is an incredible feeling. You're allowed exactly one hour with the gorillas before returning to the base station.

Your Destination —
The landlocked nation of Uganda, located in East Africa, is a tapestry of diverse landscapes, welcoming locals and incredible wildlife. Home to Africa's tallest mountain range -the snow-capped Rwenzoris, lush tea plantations, the source of the Nile leading to immense lakes, and abundant wildlife, Uganda packs a lot into one small country.
Famously called the Pearl of Africa by Winston Churchill, Uganda is one of the only three locations in the world to be home to the rare Mountain Gorilla (the other being the Virunga Massif, Congo and Mgahinga National Park Rwanda), and offers its visitors the chance to visit these beautiful creatures up close, in one of the most exclusive settings on the planet - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will also get a chance to lay your eyes on the endangered common chimpanzee as well as the Big Five!
