Your Itinerary In Detail

Day 1: Entebbe

Arrival at Entebbe International Airport, where you'll be met and assisted by a Safari Chapter Uganda representative. Transfer to Entebbe for overnight at Hotel No 5, on Bed and Breakfast basis.

Hotel No. 5 is a stylish boutique hotel located in Entebbe, with luxurious rooms opening onto the garden and swimming pool. The rooms are air-conditioned, with a small outside sitting area facing the gardens and a swimming pool.

Day 2 & 3: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

DAY 2: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Your guide will pick you up at 6:30 am and drive you to the airport for your 7:45 am flight out to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Land at Kisoro Airstrip at 8:55 am, and you'll take a 2-hour transfer to Chameleon Hill Lodge: your base for gorilla tracking for the next 2 nights.

This rainforest is located in south-western Uganda, at the junction of the plain and mountain forests. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park covers 32,000 hectares and is known for its exceptional biodiversity, with more than 160 species of trees and over 100 species of ferns.

Many types of birds and butterflies can also be found there, as well as endangered species, including the mountain gorilla. There are 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift endemic birds (rare birds native only to the Rift Valley) including the African green broadbill and bar-tailed trogon.

Chameleon Hill Lodge is a peaceful and exclusive retreat on the shores of Lake Mutanda, adjacent to Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks. It features ten luxury en-suite chalets, with stunning views across the lake and the Virunga Volcanoes mountain range.

Overnight in Chameleon Hill Lodge on Full Board.

DAY 3: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

After an energising breakfast, embark on your gorilla trek. Before 8 am, report to the ranger station for registration and briefing by one of the rangers. The guides will then lead you through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track the gorillas.

The trek can take anywhere from half an hour to 7 hours – a reasonable degree of fitness is required, as well as a sturdy pair of walking boots. Sitting in the dense rainforest, knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas (only 650 left in the wild), is an incredible feeling. You're allowed exactly one hour with the gorillas before returning to the base station.

Overnight in Chameleon Hill Lodge on Full Board.

Day 4 to 9: Queen Elizabeth, Kibale Forest, & Murchison Falls National Parks

DAY 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park

This morning, you'll be driven to Queen Elizabeth National Park (about 4 to 5 hours drive). The drive takes you past volcanic crater lakes, with breathtaking game and some of the best bird watching in East Africa (about 500 different bird species).

In the late afternoon, take a boat trip on the 32km long Kazinga Channel. This water system has the highest concentration of hippo in the world, and you'll get quite close to them. Observe crocodiles, buffalo and other game that drink from the channel, and marvel at the abundant varieties of birds that are supported here. Overnight at Katara Lodge, on Full Board basis.

DAY 5: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Morning game drives in the park as well as evening game drives.

Overnight at Katara Lodge, on Full Board basis.

DAY 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park to Kibale Forest National Park

You'll be driven for about 2 hours to Kibale Forest National Park. Primate Lodge is perfectly located for exploring the park, tucked deep in the forest and right next door to the starting point for chimpanzee tracking excursions.

This afternoon, you'll go chimp tracking in Kibale Forest National Park. After the briefing, embark on the chimp tracking, which takes about 2 or 3 hours depending on where the chimps are. On the trek you can see other primates such as grey-cheeked mangabeys, along with red-tailed and blue monkeys. Your expert guide will share the secrets of the forest's flora and fauna, ensuring that the trail is both informative and enjoyable.

Overnight at Primate Lodge in Standard Cottages with Full Board dining.

Your Destination

The landlocked nation of Uganda, located in East Africa, is a tapestry of diverse landscapes, welcoming locals and incredible wildlife. Home to Africa's tallest mountain range -the snow-capped Rwenzoris, lush tea plantations, the source of the Nile leading to immense lakes, and abundant wildlife, Uganda packs a lot into one small country.

Famously called the Pearl of Africa by Winston Churchill, Uganda is one of the only three locations in the world to be home to the rare Mountain Gorilla (the other being the Virunga Massif, Congo and Mgahinga National Park Rwanda), and offers its visitors the chance to visit these beautiful creatures up close, in one of the most exclusive settings on the planet - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will also get a chance to lay your eyes on the endangered common chimpanzee as well as the Big Five!
