Your destinations —
Koh Samui
One of Thailand's most popular holiday spots, Koh Samui is famed for its swathes of white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and breathtaking scenery. Mass tourism has brought bustling nightlife and great restaurants, but it is still possible to find a quiet stretch of sand for total escapism. Island hopping is popular too, as are watersports and nature treks.
Look for steaming street-side food stalls beyond the beach, backpacker shanties plunked down on quiet stretches of sand and secreted Buddhist temples along the backstreets. Featuring a variety of beaches the island has a broad appeal, whether you want to be in the heart of the action or away from it all.
Called the “Coconut Island,” Koh Samui is situated in the Gulf of Thailand bordering the South China Sea. Once a haven for fishermen, it is Thailand’s third-largest island. Visit the nearby Lamai Temple, the revered Big Buddha Temple, and magnificent vistas at Chaweng View. See the strange formations at Grandmother and Grandfather Rock and mingle with the locals at the multicultural fishing village Huatanon. Stop to see Koh Samui’s sacred mummified monk at the Kunaram Temple, or engage with nature at Namuang Waterfall.
Bangkok
The colourful and exhilarating capital city of Thailand, Bangkok is an exotic sight to behold for any traveller, whether you frequent the city, or this is your first visit. With a hectic mix of cosmopolitan modernity and old-world charm, Bangkok offers an immersive stay in Thailand.
Dotted with a staggering 400 Buddhist temples, embrace the culture of the city as you walk side by side with saffron-robed monks, and then be amazed by the revered Grand Palace and grandeur of Wat Phra Kaew (Royal Temple). Take a cruise down the Chao Phraya River and watch the hustle and bustle of everyday like or escape the crowds and venture to the back streets of the old Portuguese quarter.
Foodies will be enthralled by the flavourful cuisine served at Yaowarat Street (China Town) and Sukhumvit Soi 38, but none compares to Khao San Road - Bangkok's infamous backpacker strip, but a must for local cuisine, cheap drinks and lots of souvenirs. If you have the time, visit Bangkok's only Michelin-Star street food restaurant and see Raan Jay Fai at work.
For those who love to shop, the legendary MBK Centre shopping mall is busy with tourists and locals alike. An evening in Sukhumvit is not to be missed and with the ease of the BTS Skytrain, you'll be able to venture back and forth between the many districts of the city.
