Your Destination

The Norwegian Fjords region is one of the most spectacular natural landscapes and best preserved in the world. A setting that combines impressive images of fjords, majestic glaciers, waterfalls, crystalline lakes and snowy mountains, sprinkled with picturesque villages seemed straight out of a postcard.

We will provide you with a suggested itinerary to cover in your hire car, beginning in Stavanger with its original dockside warehouses and pretty 18th-century streets climbing up from a bustling harbour, you will make your way to smaller charming cities such as Bergen. Along the way you will witness the spectacular scenery of the country, where smooth glass-like fjords reflect the soaring mountains above.

As for accommodation, we have selected comfortable and cosy hotels in convenient locations, so you can be assured of a restful night after your day's adventures.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Stavanger
On arrival at the airport of Stavanger Sola (SVG), please make your way to the rent-a-car desk where you will be provided with keys and documentation, and then you can start your trip to Stavanger.

On your first day you can discover this beautiful Norwegian city. There are many reasons for visiting Stavanger, the fourth largest city in Norway, such as the district of Straen - a historic area with 173 wooden houses built in the XVIII and XIX centuries, the medieval cathedral or the Valberg tower.

You can enjoy your free time visiting city museums, discovering its medieval streets or just relaxing on one of its lovely terraces.

Overnight in Stavanger with breakfast included.

Day 2: Stavanger – Fiord of Light – the Pulpit rock – Stavanger
Breakfast. You can spend the morning in Stavanger discovering the places you have not visited yet, or discover wonderful Norwegian nature. You can visit the Lysefjord (the fjord of Light) with its rocky walls that plunge into the water at more than 1,000 metres high.

There you will have an opportunity to get on a boat that will take you through the Hillefjorden from Stavanger to Tau. Once there, you may choose to find the steps to Preikestolhytta, the starting point for those who are planning to climb the Pulpit Rock, an outgoing part of the fjord of Light that offers an absolutely stunning view of the fjord.

Later, you can get closer to the shore and visit the fjord of Light in Oanes, where you can get another boat to travel all along of the fjord to its other side that will guide you to Lauvvik. When you finish your impressive trip contemplating Norwegian landscapes you can return by highway to Stavanger where you will have time to relax and enjoy the calm of this beautiful city.

Overnight in Stavanger with breakfast included.

Day 3: Stavanger – Kjerag – Stavanger
Breakfast. This day can be dedicated to exploration and discovery of the surroundings of Stavanger. We highly recommend you visit one of the mythical places of this region - a real must see is the mountain of Kjerag located in Lysefjorden. There are two ways to get there: by car (in this case you will spend about 2.5 hours one way driving from Stavanger and then drop your vehicle at the paid parking at Oygardstol where the path to Kjerag starts). As it is quite a long way to drive, we suggest you start early. On your way to this wonderful place you will find numerous viewpoints from where you may admire absolutely breathtaking views - so take your time to make some stops.

The other way to get there is to drive until you arrive to Lauvvik (about 1 hour) and get a small ferry from there but as it´s rather small we advise you to call in advance to book a ticket if you want to take the car with you. Please take into account that this is rather expensive: a one way ticket will cost you about 300 euro 2 PAX+1 car (about 2.5 hours). Also don’t forget your hiking boots! Just please keep in mind that these routes are planned for people with trekking experience so they would seem rather difficult for first-timers.

Once you are there, hike about 6 km to get to Kjeragbolten and then make a climb of about 500 metres. At Kjerag your way will go up and down until you reach a plateau from where you will observe the fascinating views with mountains and sparkling water all around.

At the end of this fabulous day you may get back to Stavanger and spend your free time having a delicious dinner in one of the local restaurants or just relaxing.

Overnight at Stavanger with breakfast included.

Day 4: Stavanger – Hardanger
Breakfast. Early in the morning you can leave Stavanger for the Hordaland County, located along the Hardanger fjord. We recommend you pass through the famous underwater tunnels of Rennfast, the deepest in the world, and then board the ferry Mortavika to cross the fjord Bokna.

On your way you can also visit the old Åkra Fjord; enjoy the views offered by the National Park of Folgefonna. Once at the hotel, in the afternoon you can choose between two interesting activities: you may get a hiking tour offered by the hotel and spend some fascinating hours alone with nature or make a 20-minute long ride to the Langfoss Falls, considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world and fifth highest waterfall in Norway.

To continue this unforgettable evening, you can enjoy the beautiful landscapes hiking along the coastline of the lake Eidfjordvatnet that offers a unique variety of fishing areas so popular in Norway. At the end of the day, you will arrive to the shores of the Hardanger Fjord, where you will find your historical hotel, situated in an ancient building of the XVIII century.

Overnight in the Hardanger area with breakfast & dinner included.

Day 5: Hardanger fjord – Fjord of Dreams – Leikanger
Breakfast. If you didn´t visit the Langfoss Falls the day before, we suggest you spend the morning there enjoying the hiking routes and its magical views. Those who have already had this fascinating experience can continue the journey through the Norwegian Fjords heading for Nærøyfjord, in Fjord of Dreams, following another fantastic route, during which you will discover, among other things, the spectacular view of Hanguren and the village of Voss with its beautiful church called Vangskyrkja built here between 1271 and 1277 and enjoy a breathtaking panorama with snow-capped mountains as a background. We recommend you continue the road to reach Gudvangen, a beautiful Viking town with ancient narrow streets.

Also you can get a train called Fläm Train that is an authentic masterpiece of engineering which runs by one of the steepest railways in the world that will get you to Gudvangen.

In Gudvangen you will be able to start another exciting adventure! It’s advisable to hire a 2 hour long cruise to discover Nærøyfjord, the narrowest fjord in the world, considered the most spectacular. With walls that reach 1,400 metres high, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Crossing the Nærøyfjord you will reach Kaupanger, where you will see numerous waterfalls and idyllic farms on the slopes of the mountains.

You will spend the night in the Area of Leikanger, right in front of the Sognefjord or the Fjord of Dreams. And there is no a better way to finish this beautiful day, than enjoying the included dinner at the hotel with the panoramic views of the fjords.

Overnight in the Sognefjord area with breakfast & dinner included.

Day 6: Leikanger – Nigardsbreen – Urnes – Leikanger
Breakfast. We recommend you start the day by heading to Jostedalsbreen, Europe's largest glacier. Along the way, surrounded by majestic mountains capped with snow, you will cross the riverbank of Jostedal, whose impressive green waters won't go unnoticed. Visiting the Jostedalsbreen, you can discover one its arms called Nigardsbreen, considered the most beautiful glacier in Norway.

As an option, you can make a mount by the glacier of emerald blue ice (about 1 hour walking). After visiting the glacier, we advise you to cross the Lusterfjord fjord by boat and make a stop to observe the Viking church called Urnes, made of wood (entrance ticket not included), inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Later you can return to Leikanger where you will enjoy another delicious dinner.

Overnight in the Sognefjord area with breakfast & dinner included.

Day 7: Leikanger – Vangsnes – Vik – Bergen
Breakfast.  In the morning you can leave for Hella to cross the fjord of Dream (Sognefjord) by boat that will take you to the village called Vangsnes.

Leaving Vangsnes, in the direction to Bergen, you can follow fantastic mountain routes to know more about this spectacular region of Norway. Among other beautiful places, we recommend you visit a little town called Vik, where you will have the opportunity to observe another magnificent wooden Viking church (entrance not included) and enjoy the views of the legendary waterfall Tvindefossen (or the waterfall of Eternal Youth).

Once in Bergen, the beautiful capital of the fjords region, you can enjoy the peace and quiet there or make a visit to nearby Bergen, including the Troll’s Hill, or to the house and museum of composer Edvard Grieg, or get a funicular to climb the hill of Floyen, where you can enjoy the best views of the city. Being in Bergen, don’t forget to visit the local fish market, one of Norway's most visited outdoors markets that will offer you a delicious fish soup, ideal for a late night snack.

Overnight at Bergen with breakfast included.

Day 8: Bergen - Bjorna & Bokna Fjords – Stavanger
After breakfast, you can spend the morning discovering the city of Bergen: the colorful houses of the antique area of the Bryggen sea port, the picturesque fish market Fisketorget; the Aquarium, the port terraces or just letting you get lost in the fairy tale of this wonderful city. We suggest you to visit the surrounding areas of Bergen, including Trolls Hill where the house-museum of the famous composer Edvard Grieg is located. Or to travel in funicular to the Floi hill where you can enjoy the best view to the city.

After lunch, you can make a trip by the North Sea crossing the fjords Bjorna and Bokna in ferry, the Rennesoy islands and the underwater tunnels of Rennfast (the deepest in the world, 223 meters below sea level). Arrival to Stavanger, the administrative center of Rogaland, with its white wooden buildings, so typical for the seafaring cities of the North Sea. If you don’t want to get lost: visit the old district of Straen, with its 173 wooden houses and its medieval cathedral or the Valberg tower. Take your time to have a rest and a drink to fall in love even more with this beautiful city.

Overnight at Stavanger with breakfast included.

Day 9: Flight home
After breakfast you will have time for some last minute shopping before you return your car to Stavanger Sola Airport (preferably, before or at the same time as you rented it the first day or you may have to pay extra).  Afterwards, catch your flight home.
