Your Itinerary —
Day 1 Tromsø, the gateway to the Arctic
Fly from the UK to Tromsø, the Gateway to the Arctic, and perhaps enjoy the sights of this lively, compact city before boarding the ship and departing late in the afternoon. (Dinner on board)
Day 2 Honningsvåg and the North Cape
Following the scenic sailing through Magerøysund and after an early stop in Hammerfest, you arrive in Honningsvåg. This small port is the gateway to the wonders of the spectacular North Cape (optional excursion). At 71° 10’ 21” N it puts you a mere 2,000 kilometres from the Geographical North Pole. This evening, you pass Finnkirka, a rock formation that is sacred to the indigenous Sami people and now also the site of an impressive light show. (Breakfast and dinner included)
Day 3 Kirkenes, the voyage turning point
The last port on the Voyage North is Kirkenes. And at longitude 30° E, you are actually further east than Istanbul and St. Petersburg. The terrain, culture and geography of Kirkenes offer the opportunity to take part in some fabulous Arctic excursions. Departing Kirkenes at lunchtime, you retrace your steps along the Varanger peninsula reaching Berlevåg in the evening. (Breakfast and dinner included).
Day 4 Hammerfest and Tromsø
Your first major stop of the day is Hammerfest. Here, you can enjoy an optional excursion including a visit to Hammerfest's UNESCO World Heritage site, the Meridian Column, commemorating the conclusion of Struve's historical measurement of the globe. From here, you next major stop will be Tromsø where your voyage comes to an end.
Transfer to the Radisson Blue Tromso for a 1 or 2 night stay. (Breakfast and dinner included).
Day 5 Tromsø
Transfer to Tromsø airport for your direct flight back to the UK (Breakfast included).
6 day itineraries are available and offer a further fantastic opportunity to take part in some optional excursions such as whale watching or simply enjoy Tromsø and watch out for the Northern Lights.
See our choice of optional excursions below.
Some departure dates have a two night stay in Tromsø after the voyage and some with one night before and one night after the Voyage.
Your Ship —
Our members may choose from an Inside or Outside Cabin.
Depending on your departure date you will be on one of three cruise ships:
MS Richard With is named after the founder of Hurtigruten, Captain Richard With. His establishment of the Norwegian Coastal Express back in 1893 had an enormous impact in life along the Norwegian coast. This ship was delivered to us in 1993, 100 years after our founder completed his first ever Hurtigruten voyage.
On board there is beautiful art by the famous Harr family. The panorama lounges, Horisont and Syvstjernen, treat you to unforgettable views of the surrounding scenery. There are also Jacuzzis on board.
The name Midnatsol (Midnight Sun) is something to live up to, and this ship, dedicated to the Norwegian summer, does just that. The interior is bright, its colourful décor is inspired by the warm sunny climate, a motif also reflected in the many pieces of Norwegian modern art on display. MS Midnatsol was put into service on 15 April 2003 and is the fourth Hurtigruten ship to bear this name.
The ship has a strong environmental profile and a modern design, with Norwegian materials used extensively throughout its interiors. Together with her sister ship, MS Trollfjord, MS Midnatsol is among the newest in the fleet. What characterises both ships is the large, two-storey panorama lounge above the bow and the large glass expanses that allow natural light to enter as well as providing extraordinary views.
MS Nordlys is named after the spectacular natural phenomenon visible in these waters between October and March. Nordlys, meaning the Northern Lights (or Aurora Borealis), which appear in the sky of the Northern Hemisphere as green and sometimes red flaming "waves" and will leave you with memories that will last forever.
MS Nordlys was built in 1994 and its art, décor and colours are all inspired by the Northern Lights phenomenon. With her light and delicate interior, Norwegian artists have created a unique and distinct environment on board. Passangers are encouraged to relax in the ship's elegant maritime atmosphere, panorama lounges and comfortable reclining chairs.
Optional Excursions —
In Tromsø, either before or after your cruise has ended you may choose to add the below optional excursions.
Dog Sledging
Complete your holiday with a thrilling ride by Husky dog sledge across the open plains of Tromsø. Eager Huskies are harnessed to your sledge waiting to transport you across the frozen landscape. At the end of the trip a warm Sámi meal followed by coffee and home-made cake will be served in the lavvo (Sámi tent). An exhilarating trip!
Whale Watching
Meet some of the greatest animals known to man in their natural habitat. It is possible to see humpback, minke and orca whales as we journey to their herring-rich feeding grounds off the coast of Troms county.
