Your Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Arrive in Katmandu

After landing in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel in Patan.

Patan's traditional Newari architecture, intricate carvings and rich cultural history make it a popular destination for visitors to Nepal who wish to explore the country's rich cultural heritage.

Later in the afternoon, visit Buddhnath, built in the 14th century and probably the largest Buddhist stupa in the world. A number of monasteries have sprung up around the stupa, representing the different sects of Tibetan Buddhism.

The tour continues to the Pashupatinath temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples in the world, located on the banks of the Bagmati river in Kathmandu. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the three most important deities in the Hindu religion, and is believed to have been built in the fifth century. The temple is considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus and attracts millions of visitors every year. The intricate wooden carvings, gilded roofs and elaborate statues of the deities make the temple an excellent example of traditional Nepalese architecture.

Overnight stay in Patan

Day 2: Patan

Breakfast at the hotel followed by a visit to Bugumati and Khokana.

The road from Patan to Bungamati is dotted with small votive chaityas, fitting for an ancient recessional path. The village, home to over 2,000 people, is squeezed against a rolling slope, surrounded by rice terraces and clumps of trees. Open-air ponds line the paved road at the entrance to the village.

A ten-minute walk past the important Karya Binayak shrine on a tree-covered hill brings you to the village of Khokana. It is famous for its mustard oil production.

In the afternoon, return to Patan and visit Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the town of Lalitpur, south of Kathmandu. The square is home to a number of ancient palaces, temples and shrines that bear witness to Nepal's rich history and cultural heritage.

You will visit the House of Kumari and receive the blessings of the goddess Kumari.

Then it's on to the Tibetan Singing Bowl & Healing Center, a local shop specialising in sound therapy using hand-made Tibetan bowls. The vibrations from the bowls are said to cure headaches, back pain, stress and insomnia!

Overnight stay in Patan

Day 3: Bhaktapur

Tuck into a tasty breakfast at the hotel, then head off to the Changu Narayan temple!

The original temple was built in the 4th century, during the reign of the Lichhavi rulers, and is perched on a hill overlooking the nearby town. A large part of the temple was rebuilt in the 18th century.

Later, you can hike from Changunarayan to Telkot. The walk offers superb views of the valley to the right and the Himalayas to the left (2-3 hours' walk).

After the walk, return to Bhaktapur.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square, where the kings of the Malla dynasty lived until 1769 and left some of the finest examples of architectural excellence. Literally known as the 'city of devotees', it is renowned for its elegant art, fabulous culture, colourful festivals, traditional dances and typical Newari lifestyle. Discover the royal palace, the golden gate and the entrance to the 55-window palace, known as Nepal's most important work of art. Then visit the highest temple in the Kathmandu Valley, the Nyatapola Temple.

Stroll around the square and you'll find centuries-old pagoda-style buildings such as the Nyatapolo and Datta-Traya Sight temples.

Overnight stay in Bhaktapur

Day 4: Namo Buddha Monastery

First – time for breakfast!

Today we head for the small village of Namo Buddha. Its small size belies its considerable importance to Buddhists, and it's a place well worth visiting if you want to escape Kathmandu for a few days. The air is fresher, the skies clearer, the food and accommodation exceptional, and the town offers interesting cultural and walking attractions. Namo Buddha itself has two points of interest: the Thrangu Tashi Yantse monastery (home to around 250 monks) and the Namo Buddha Stupa, below the monastery. You will hike 2 km to reach the monastery.

The rest of the day will be spent exploring monastic life.

Overnight stay at Namobuddha Monastery

Day 5: Namo Buddha Monastery

Rise early to watch the sun rise over the Himalayas.

Join the monks for the morning prayer session followed by breakfast at the monastery.

Today you will spend the whole day at the monastery participating in prayers, talking with the monks, at the Tibetan medicine clinic and at the school.

Day 6: Panauti

Morning prayers and breakfast at the monastery.

After breakfast, you will set off in the direction of Panauti. You can also hike to Panauti, which takes around 3 to 4 hours depending on your pace. This is a downhill walk through villages.

Panauti lies in a peaceful valley, about six kilometres south of Banepa. This town is relatively untouched by modernisation and festivals are held here to preserve the precious tradition of the indigenous Newars. It has a number of interesting temples, one of which is perhaps the oldest in Nepal.

Discover the authentic way of life of the Nepalese people, meet the villagers of Panauti and breathe in the fresh air of the lush Panauti Valley.

Overnight stay in Panauti

In Panauti you will stay in a homestay which welcomes visitors to fifteen local houses, all run by women under the motto "Run by Women for Women's Empowerment".

What can you expect?

As you'll be staying in a local house, it's important to know that your stay won't be like that of a hotel. The facilities are basic but comfortable, and you'll be living in the same way as the host families. That's the magic of the homestay experience!

Day 7: Kathmandu

After breakfast, a vehicle will take you to a location from where you will begin a heritage walk that ends at Kathmandu's Durbar Square. The trail passes by local markets, temples, Kathmandu's old town and offers plenty of opportunities for photography. On this walk, we cover almost 6 km of the city, which takes us around 3 to 4 hours.

Walk through the old market of Ason and Indra Chowk (1? hours). Walk through the narrow streets of Ason, a very colourful and lively market selling Nepalese spices, vegetables, etc. Filled with colourful shops and stalls, Indra Chowk is a centuries-old market. Temples include Seto Machhendranath, with its intricate wooden carvings, and Aakash Bhairav, guarded by statues of lions.

Afternoon free in Thamel (Kathmandu's tourist centre) to buy souvenirs for your loved ones.

Day 8: Departure from Kathmandu

After having breakfast at the hotel, enjoy some free time until your 12pm departure. Then, you'll take a transfer to the airport for the flight home.
