Your Tour Itinerary —
You will be met and assisted by a representative upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport and then will be transferred to the hotel. Kathmandu, the capital of the ancient mountain kingdom of Nepal, has the air of a medieval city with a maze of narrow streets, wooden temples and beautifully decorated palaces. In the background there is often the gentle sound of jangling cymbals and the markets are a rich blend of colors and aromas. Overnight at your hotel.
Take a morning drive to Patan. On arrival, visit The Patan Durbar Square, believed to be founded by the medieval rulers as early as 299 AD, has many shrines and Temples noted for their fine carvings including the famous Krishna Temple with 21 pinnacles. Visit the holiest of the Hindu temples, the Pashupatinath. Stretching over a massive area and sheltering numerous temples and faunas, the Pashupatinath Temple itself is a two-storied construction with four silver doors facing each direction.
In the afternoon, proceed for the of two magnificent and important temples, Bouddhanath and Pashupatinath. Bouddhanath, possibly the world's largest Buddhist stupa (temple) and a site of great veneration for Buddhists. Around the stupa, a number of monasteries have sprung up a number of the different sects of Tibetan Buddhism including one (on the west side of the stupa) that houses an enormous seated statue of Maitreya Buddha splendidly adorned.
Pashupatinath, the most sacred of all Hindu temples in Nepal, situated on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the temple precincts but may look into premises from the opposite bank. It draws tens of thousands of pilgrims and devotees from and India during the festival of Mahashivaratri (the night of Lord Shiva). Overnight at your hotel.
In the morning, opt to take an early drive to the local domestic airport for an hour Mountain flight to enjoy the breathtaking views of the scenic beauty of the mighty mountains. The Everest flight is a sparkling clear journey across the world’s highest peaks, Mt. Everest - world’s highest peak (8848 m). Return to the hotel for breakfast and morning at leisure.
After breakfast, you will check-out at the hotel. On the way, you will visit the pottery of Thimi. You will explore Bhakatpur and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. We will explore the Bhakatpur followed by lunch at Local restaurant
Bhaktapur is the marvel of Kathmandu Valley and perhaps the most popular of the three Newar towns of the Kathmandu Valley. Fourteen kilometres east of Kathmandu, this peaceful, conservative town stands in sharp contrast to the bustle of its two adjacent cities. The kings of Bhaktapur ruled over Kathmandu and Patan from the twelfth century to the 14th century. Arrive Nagarkot and check into the hotel. The rest of the day is at your own leisure.
Nagarkot is tucked away in the upper reaches of Kathmandu Valley, which is 32 km. east of Kathmandu situated at an altitude of 2,175 m. Besides being a popular location for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets over the Himalayas, Nagarkot also offers the panoramic view of the major peaks of the eastern Nepal Himalayas including Mt. Everest (weather permitting). Overnight at your hotel.
After breakfast, you will be driven to Pokhara, which offers you a rare combination of snow-capped peaks and icy lakes, one of the kingdom's most picturesque destinations. Bindhyavasani Temple overlooks a modest amusement park. Lake Phewa, bordered by a large number of authentic lodges and simple restaurants, is a most enjoyable site for the visitor.
Upon arrival in Pokhara, you will check in at the hotel.
In the afternoon, drive to Chorepatan where your 3-hour trek begins at the World Peace Stupa monument, a Buddhist temple located on the top of the hill on the southern shores of Phewa Lake. Besides being an impressive sight in itself, the shrine is a great vantage point, which offers spectacular views of the Annapurna range and Pokhara city. Overnight at your hotel.
Taje a morning drive 10 km to Sarangkot, where you will hike for 30 minutes to reach the summit and admire the sunrise. Sarangkot is a former Kaski fort on top of a small hill, which offers incredible views of the Pokhara Valley along the serene Phewa Lake and the various peaks of the Anapurna Mountains. It also allows for a short hike. It also offers a short and easy trek for those who cannot opt for the long and challenging ones nearby. After your sunrise view, return back to the hotel for breakfast.
After breakfast, you will take a tour of the Pokhara Valley, visiting Barahi Temple, David Falls Waterfalls, Seti Gorge, Gupteswor Mahadev Winery and Tibetan Refugee Camp. During the day you will enjoy a boat ride on Lake Phewa. Overnight at your hotel.
After breakfast, hit the road for Tansen Palpa. Tansen is an old town situated 4300 metres above sea level. It is located on the road from Pokhara to Lumbini. Major attractions here are the ancient culture, excellent mountain views, serene atmosphere and friendly people. The weather here makes it a pleasant place to visit in any season. On clear days Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, Gauri Shankar and other peaks can be seen.
In the afternoon you will visit the local Tanse bazaar, the Dhaka weaving centre and a metal craft centre. You will be transferred to Lumbini in the late evening. Overnight at your hotel.
After breakfast, you will visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, whose spiritual site is surrounded by a monastic area, separated from east to west - the east having the Theravadin monasteries and the west having the Mahayana and Vajrayan monasteries.
The tour of Lumbini includes the visit of Lumbini Garden - a sacred garden with numerous temples, monasteries, stupas and pagodas surrounded by rural farmlands. You will also visit ruins of ancient monasteries, a sacred Bhodi Tree, an ancient bathing pond, the Ashoka Pillar and the Mayadevi temple, where the precise place of birth of Buddha is located.
In the afternoon, you will start your journey to Chitwan National Park (202 km/ 4 hours). The park offers the richest and most spectacular wildlife sightseeing in Asia. Cruise deep into the dense jungle to face the elusive Bengal tigers and single-horned rhinos. Once the hunting grounds for the Nepalese royalty, elite and visiting European nobility, Nepal’s first National park is now a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site and conservation success. Overnight at your hotel.
In the early morning, wake up to tea and coffee before embarking on a choice of optional jungle activities. Choose from canoeing, a visit to the Elephant Conservation Centre, a jeep ride and a jungle trek. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 9: Chitwan to Kathmandu
After breakfast, depart for Kathmandu (195 km/8 hours). Check-in at the hotel and enjoy free time to explore at your own leisure. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 10: Departure from Kathmandu
Enjoy your final breakfast at the hotel, then transfer to the airport for your return flight.
Your Trek Itinerary —
During your Gems of Nepal Tour, our members can opt to take part in a 3-day/2-night trek. This trek will take depart on Day 5 of your Gems of Nepal Tour and will follow the below itinerary.
Ascent/Descent: 618m. Ascent: 15km drive, 5km walk. Duration: 20 min drive, 3hrs walk.
You will be driven for about 20 minutes to the city of Milan Chowk. From there, you will start your ascent through the chestnut forest enjoying views of the Hemka and Mardi valleys, before arriving at the village of Jiharka where you will stop at a local shop for refreshments. From there, you will continue for an additional hour of walking to Astam. Astam offers a 360-degree view of Pokhara, Hemka and the Mardi Valley with majestic views of the Annapurna peaks in the background, offering spectacular places to gaze upon a sunset or sunrise over the Himalayas. This trek will also allow you to immerse yourself in the rural and village life of Adhikari or Bahimins. This day will be both relaxing and rejuvenating.
Ascent/Descent: 378m. Ascent: 11 km walk. Duration: 5hrs walk.
After breakfast, you will gradually walk to Dhampus, passing through small villages and farms. Dampus is occupied by many ethnic groups including the Gurungs, Brahmin's, Chhetri's and Dalits. The village offers spectacular views of the Annapurna Mountains. You can enjoy a cup of tea, meditate and let yourself be inspired by the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. Dhampus is also famous for its sunsets and sunrises. Set out for about 3 hours of walking. After lunch, you will continue trekking for 1.5 hrs gradually uphill through lush mid-Himalayan forests until you reach the Australian Camp where you will spend the night. The Australian Camp offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna range, Machhapuchhare and the Lamjung Himal.
Ascent/Descent: 1100m. Descent: 2 km walk. Duration: 1hr drive.
Wake up early to see the sunrise on the Himalayas. After breakfast, you will start your trek to Kande for about 3 hours. Kande is located west of Pokhara, above the north shore of Phewa Lake. You will then be driven to Pokhara and will continue on the rest of your Gems of Nepal Tour.
