Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania was founded in 1323 when Grand Duke Gediminas built a castle there, and it is now a bustling city with one of the oldest and most charming Old Towns in Europe. The splendid architectural blend of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles makes this a wonderful city to explore.
Day 2 / 2-3: Wake up to a breakfast at the hotel and set out to discover the beauties of Vilnius. Opt for a 3-hour city tour by foot with a private English-speaking guide (at the next stage of the booking process) and visit the gems of the city as well as historic landmarks such as the Parliament, the President's Palace and the Gates of Dawn.
At your own leisure, you can visit the Užupis District, which was first mentioned as far back as the 16th century. Formerly it was a suburb of the poor, with three bridges across the River Vilnelė connecting it with the main city. In Malūno Street, pass Bernardine Monastery of Užupis, established in 1496. In Užupis Street, see the Palace of Honesty which was built at the beginning of the 19th century in the late classicism style. If you walk this street, you will also see St. Balthazar Church. This quarter also has the oldest cemetery in Vilnius stretched on the steep riverside of the River Vilnelė. The cemetery used to belong to the Bernardine monks and has since been restored.
Second Stop: Riga
Day 3 / 4: Begin your morning with breakfast at the hotel. Then, you will board the LuxExpress bus for a 4-and-a-half-hour ride to Riga. The bus is fully equipped for your comfort with WiFi, toilets, and tea and coffee-making facilities.
Arrive at the central bus station in Riga, which is located only a few steps away from Old Town and close to your hotel. Check-in to your hotel and stay overnight.
Riga is the biggest of the three Baltic capital cities and the most vibrant. Take your time to enjoy it!
Day 4 / 5-6: Wake up to breakfast at the hotel. You will have the day to explore the city. To see the city in-depth, you can opt for a 3-hour city tour on foot with a private English-speaking guide (at the next stage of the booking process).
You will enjoy the beauty of the ancient Hanseatic city while strolling through the cobble-stone, picturesque streets of the Old Town. In Old Riga, you will see the Dome Cathedral which boasts one of the world’s largest pipe organs, St. Peter's Church with magnificent views of the city from its steeple, the old Guild Houses, the Swedish Gate, the architectural ensemble - Three Brothers, St. Jacob’s Church, the Parliament House, Old Riga Castle, and view the many wonderfully restored buildings, now housing cosy restaurants, cafés, bars and souvenir shops.
Continue on our own to the Art Nouveau area, once home to many of Latvia’s most famous artists, writers, and scholars. You will see why Riga came to be known as one of Europe's leading exponents of the late 19th and early 20th-century architectural style of Art Nouveau. Riga boasts the greatest concentration of Art Nouveau buildings in Europe, which are among the finest and best-preserved in the world.
We highly recommend visiting the Central Market, open 365 days a year, 7 days a week. The market was established in 1922 in old Zeppelin hangars abandoned by the German Kaiser’s army in the western region of Kurzeme. The market and hangars have since become a landmark of the city for both Rigans and the city’s visitors.
In the evening, visit Andrejosta district (yacht port) for a fancy dinner with a view of the Daugava river or go to Tallinas Kvartals (Tallinas district) for a more local vibe.
Last stop: Tallinn
