Your destinations —
Tallinn
Estonia's capital, sitting on the edge of the Baltic Sea is known for its medieval Old Town. Most of the streets are pedestrian only, allowing visitors to roam and stroll along as they admire the beautiful merchant houses that display Gothic architecture.
The city is divided into two towns, with the upper section which once housed wealthy Germans and the lower section which housed the poor Estonians, formed two distinct styles within the city. This is why you can find the majestic Toompea Castle in the Upper Town, a stronghold site since the 9th century that today houses the Parliament of Estonia and in the Lower Town, the market.
Riga
Riga, the capital of Latvia and the largest capital of the Baltic States, is home to Gothic spires that dominate its cityscape. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old Town is a must-see when exploring the city. At the mouth of the Daugava River, buildings dating as far back as 1201 can be seen, still holding on to their charm and history.
The city is also famous for its Art Nouveau architecture which make up over one third of the buildings in the centre, built during the 19th and 20th-century. Riga prides itself in holding the greatest concentration of Art Nouveau buildings in Europe, which are among the best-preserved in the world.
When looking for a place to eat, stop by the Central Market, built into old Zeppelin hangars left behind by the German Kaisar's army. The markets are open 365 days a year, 7 days a week and are popular among the locals and visitors alike.
Vilnius
Thanks to its impeccably maintained Old Town, Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Home to an extraordinary historic continuity, and a turbulent history, Vilnius is a quintessentially European city that boasts a wide reputation as a charming, delightful and magical holiday destination across all seasons.
From the stunning examples of classicism, eclecticism, brick gothic and art nouveau in the city centre, to the beautiful parks and the steep, hilly streets, Vilnius is a delight. Walk along the banks of the river Neris as it serenely snakes its way through the city centre. The riverside path offers spectacular views of the Old Town on one side, and the imposing skyscrapers of the New District on the other.
