Your Destinations

Tokyo
One of the world’s most cutting-edge capitals, Tokyo is a city of contrasts. Famous for its modernity, neon-lit landscape and towering skyscrapers, it is also home to sprawling parkland, peaceful shrines and temples and lovingly tended gardens. Despite its love affair with manga pop culture, fashion, high-tech trends and conspicuous consumption, below the surface is a city that has its roots in ancient heritage. Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples stand close to skyscrapers as a reminder of a more contemplative time and at the heart of the hyperactive centre lies the serene Imperial Palace, the home of the ruling emperor that provides a tangible link to the city’s historical past.
Lake Kawaguchi
Lake Kawaguchi is located in the border of Fujikawaguchiko and Minobu, in the southern Yamanashi Prefecture near Mount Fuji, Japan. It is the second largest of the five Fuji Lakes in terms of surface area, and is located at the lowest elevation.
Matsumoto
Matsumoto Castle is one of the most impressive castles in Japan, making for an especially enjoyable cultural day out. Enjoy strolling around the pretty, laid back streets of this mountain town, and make sure to visit the Wasabi firm in the North.
Takayama
Established as a castle town in the 16th century, Takayama has retained its unique charm to the present day. Sights include the Sanmachi district of traditional buildings, the bustling morning markets and dozens of museums, galleries and traditional craft shops. Situated in the Japan Alps, this small city offers wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and is a good base for exploring the Hida region.
Kanazawa
Touched with the grand allure of its past, Kanazawa prides itself on being a historical jewel of Japan. It is best known for being home to one of Japan's most beautiful landscaped gardens - Kenrokuen - a castle garden originating from the 17th century. It's easy to discover this nostalgic city in a few days, admiring its celebrated penchant for the traditional arts, including hand-painted silks and lacquerware, ceramics and delicate gold leaf work. Spot a geisha at work, discover authentic tea houses and inns, and wade your way through the market.
Kyoto
Kyoto is where you will find the Japan of silent temples nestling in bamboo groves, gardens of finely raked sand and bewitching geisha. This city is home to over 2,000 temples and shrines, exquisite crafts and some of the best cuisine in the country. In short, Kyoto is the heartbeat of traditional Japan. Not to be missed are Kinkaku-ji, Ginkaku-ji and Kiyomizu temples, although be aware that these do become crowded. For a more peaceful, intimate temple experience we recommend the temple complex of Daitoku-ji, in particular Daisen-in sub-temple, and the Arashiyama area to the west of the city.

Travel Suggestions

Tokyo
Start your trip smoothly by visiting the famous and peaceful Meiji Jingu shrine, and walk through the Takeshita Dori. You could take a walk afterwards in the traditional districts of the city, such as Asakusa and Ueno, or opt for the craziest video games in Akihabara.

Kawaguchi Lake
Rent electric bicycles in order to go around the lake and take in the best views of Mount Fuji. Alternatively, you could also take a little boat and admire this miracle from the lake.

Matsumoto
Visit an impressive, very well preserved and incredible famous Matsumoto castle also called “the Crow Castle”. You can also find numerous thermal stations in the area around to take a relaxing bath. Why not take a stroll at the Wasabi firm which can be found to the North.

Okuhida Onsen
In the very heart of the Japanese Alps, Okuhida Onsen is a little village perfect for a halt to breathe in the fresh air of the mountains and bask in the hot Onsen springs. This step just can’t be missed if you want to get a deeper insight into Japanese culture: spend a night in Ryokan, an authentic Japanese inn, where you can enjoy a Zen moment and taste a delicious traditional meal.

Takayama
Discover the “little Kyoto of the Alps” starting in the Shiroyama Park and going on to Higashiyama Teramachi in order to admire its temples and shrines. You could continue afterwards with an ancient governor's residence Takayama Jinya and Nakabashi Bridge. Spend some time in one of the hot springs Tochio, Fukuji onsen or Hirayu, and enjoy breathtaking landscapes ideal for pleasant strolls.

Shirakawago
This region and Gokayama’s region have several villages known for their authenticity and the style of their thatched houses. Ogimachi is the best known and it offers art and craft museums. Take the day to visit these villages and dive into another era, while admiring the beautiful mountainous landscapes of the Japanese Alps.

Kanazawa
Be charmed by the old-fashioned perfume of this city : small streets of character, a castle, and the Kenrokuen garden create an atmosphere of another era. Kanazawa is also renowned for its crafts. Here is the opportunity to discover the silk kimonos, ceramics, or Wajima lacquers of Japan.

Kyoto
Start with a zen walk in the bamboo field of Arashiyama, and visit the Tenryu ji temple. Enjoy plenty of sightseeing in the centre, especially in the Gion district where you can find the wonderful Geishas. Don’t miss the Nishiki market, famous for its impressive size, and the diverse type of food that you can find there!
