Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will start with a visit to Taman Ayun, the Royal Temple of Mengwi. Built in 1634, this very impressive temple is Bali’s most sacred, surrounded by a wide moat that creates the sensation as if you are standing in the middle of the lake.
From there, continue onto Bedugul. This idyllic mountain village is located on Lake Bratan. Due to its higher altitude and cooler weather, Bedugul is Bali’s agricultural centre for vegetables so you will visit its Botanical gardens and fresh market. Afterwards, enjoy your set menu lunch at a local private retreat by the lake, which is now open to the public.
Depart from your hotel and proceed to explore the Ubud area. First stop is at Batubulan Village to witness probably the most well-known dance in Bali - Barong. This storytelling dance narrates the fight between good and evil. The barong is a mythological lionlike creature, leader of the hosts of good, and the enemy of Rangda, the demon queen. All performers wear beautifully decorated colourful masks.
Get back into your car and proceed for a delicious picnic luncheon served on the edge of The Tjampuhan Hill. A scattering of colourful cushions are provided for you to lie back and enjoy the gentle beauty of this tranquil setting. This is your chance to indulge in a selection of gourmet treats including garden salads, mini sandwiches, individual quiches and other homemade goodies.
Afterwards, visit Gunung Kawi Temple located at Tampak Siring village situated in Pakerisan River, an archaeological complex carved out of the living rock, dating back to 11th century. The temple offers a beautiful view of lush greenery and as you follow the footpath down, you will reach the temple passing through spectacular rice terraces along the way. Transfer to your hotel for check-in. Overnight in the Undisan area.
Enjoy breakfast with views of the rice fields. You will be welcomed by a local Balinese who will escort you by foot through the village, to visit a primary school nearby.
Afterwards, explore and discover what it is like to be a Balinese traditional farmer. You will learn how to plough the rice field by using traditional machiner pulled by a pair of cows/buffalo for the planting of the rice seeds. Enjoy a fresh young coconut water and lunch in the hut in the middle of the rice fields.
Continue with soft trekking around the rice fields and visit Dalem Temple and Waterfall. You will also visit a silver and goldsmith workshop that produced jewellery for local Balinese dancers, Balinese brides & grooms. Lastly, visit a Balinese house to join in on typical Balinese activities such as making the religious offering and taking part in a short traditional music lesson (Gamelan or Rindik).
The rest of the day is free at leisure. You may stroll around the village to see the villager’s activities or enjoy a Yoga class or a spa treatment. At 5 pm, join a cooking class where a local host will guide you in the secrets of authentic Balinese cuisine. You will then enjoy your own cooked dinner. Overnight in Undisan area.
