You'll also get the chance to spot the Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis: they are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky.
The season for Northern Lights in Iceland extends from September through winter and well into April. The best time to see Northern Lights is in the middle of winter when the weather is the coldest and when it is the darkest. Crisp cold evenings with skies clear enough to see stars is a prime indicator for auroral activity.
You will also visit the magnificent Gullfoss (Golden Falls) waterfall, created where the river Hvita tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 32 m (105 ft.) deep. The tour also includes the historical and geological wonder that is Thingvellir National Park, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart at a rate of a few centimetres per year.

Day 2: Reykjavik - Cheese, National Park & Steam Baths
Begin your trip with a two-hour city tour of Reykjavik, paying a visit to the exceptional observation tower of the Hallgrimskirkja Church, soaking up stunning views of the city. Learn all about Icelandic cheese and 'skyr' whilst having lunch in a cheese school buttery.
Next, depart for Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage park, stopping for a wellness retreat at the Fontana thermal baths. Check into your hotel for the night and enjoy a gourmet dinner.
After dinner, an expert tour guide will educate guests about the Northern Lights, with a guide on how to take photographs of the natural phenomenon. Step into the darkness, soak in the hotel's outdoor hot tubs and hopefully spot the Northern Lights!
Today, visit Gullfoss Waterfall and the nearby Geysir geothermal fields, marvelling at the variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. Pay a visit to Kerio, a caldera with a crater lake at the bottom - resembling an ancient amphitheatre, this is a sight to behold!
Meet a local guide who will educate you about the challenges of living in an earthquake active region. Guests will have the opportunity to boil an egg in a hot spring and sample fresh bread baked with hot steam.
Next, travel to the nearby seashore villages, lined with old, colourful houses. Enjoy a private tour around a local folk museum and a historic church, before sampling shark meat, dried fish and Brennivin (Black Death) schnapps. Delight in a langoustine dinner, before heading outside to watch for the Northern Lights.
Today, travel to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall with a stop at the Lava & Volcano Information Center where you will learn about living with active volcanoes. Nearby is the Skogafoss Waterfall which is an incredible 62 metres high, and is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country.
Afterwards, choose between a guided glacier walk that is specially designed with beginners, or continue the bus tour to explore a black lava-stone beach with bird cliffs.
Return to the hotel for a gourmet dinner, before enjoying a video presentation about the Northern Lights. Look out and see if you can spot the Aurora Borealis outside before heading to bed!
Explore the Reykjanes Peninsula and spot the region's many unusual geological features including hot springs, moon-like landscapes, bird cliffs, lighthouses and fishing villages. Visit a Viking ship and explore a local history museum that tells the story about the Viking expansion across the North Atlantic.
Enjoy a seafood and crab lunch, before departing for the famous Blue Lagoon. Here, you will enjoy a premium package entry which includes a drink of your choice and a volcano scrub or algae mask!
Once you are fully rejuvenated, travel to Reykjavik where you will enjoy dinner and a cocktail at the panoramic Pearl restaurant, followed by a Northern Lights tour if weather conditions are suitable.
