DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN SAN JOSÉ

  • Upon arrival at Juan Santamaría International Airport, a local representative will greet you and assist you in reaching your hotel in San José.
  • Settle in, relax in the comfort of your room, and take this opportunity to rest before your adventure begins.

Overnight in San José.

DAY 2: SAN JOSÉ → TORTUGUERO

  • Early departure. At the agreed time, meet at the hotel reception for a semi-shared transfer to the beautiful Tortuguero region in the northern Caribbean. Tortuguero is one of Costa Rica's most popular ecotourism destinations; it was created in 1970 to protect endangered sea turtles. The canals, rivers and lagoons of Tortuguero National Park are a veritable laboratory for studying the rainforest, freshwater and marine biology. Tortuguero National Park is a unique place, a paradise for research and ecotourism.
  • On the way, you will stop in the town of Guápiles for a Costa Rican breakfast at a local restaurant, then continue to the pier where you will board the boat to Tortuguero. This boat transfer will be a wonderful introduction to the heart of the rainforest. As you navigate the canals, you will admire the natural landscapes with their different shades of green.
  • Upon arrival at the lodge, check in, settle into your room and enjoy a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, meet your guide to visit the charming village of Tortuguero. This town has about 500 inhabitants, no cars and is located on a relatively narrow strip of land between the beach and a canal.
  • The visit to the village of Tortuguero includes round-trip boat transfer and the services of a local guide. Discover Caribbean culture, its people and their way of life up close as you stroll through this colourful town. The order of activities in Tortuguero may vary depending on hotel operations.

Discover its network of canals, lagoons and dense tropical forests on an early morning boat trip, guided by an expert naturalist guide. Tortuguero is home to abundant wildlife, including 57 species of amphibians, 111 species of reptiles and 60 species of mammals. Return to the lodge.

Before December 2010, Arenal Volcano was one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world, offering a truly majestic spectacle as it spewed molten rock and ash from its summit on a daily basis.
  • Today, there are no more lava eruptions, but you can still see smoke and ash escaping from the top of the volcano.

Your certified naturalist guide will take you to known wildlife viewing areas, helping you identify two- and three-toed sloths. The tour offers a 100% sighting guarantee.
  • In addition to sloths, the forest is teeming with other wildlife: keep your eyes peeled for toucans, monkeys, arrow frogs, hummingbirds, iguanas and much more. The slow-paced walk focuses on observation, education and discovering the magic of the quieter side of nature.
  • The tour includes round-trip transfer, a naturalist guide and a typical snack.

Breakfast & overnight in Arenal.

DAY 6: ARENAL → MONTEVERDE

  • Breakfast included at the hotel and departure. At the agreed time, departure for Monteverde, crossing Lake Arenal by shuttle boat. This is one of the most popular options. You will first make a short transfer by land from their hotel to the Lake Arenal dam.
  • They board a boat for a 30-minute crossing of Lake Arenal. On the other side, board a minibus to complete the hour-and-a-half journey to Monteverde.
  • This place is a true paradise for nature lovers, with a wonderful diversity of wildlife and vegetation. It differs from other tropical forests in Costa Rica in that it is constantly shrouded in a cloud-like mist, which has given the forest its name. Monteverde is a unique blend of natural beauty and tranquillity, combined with adventure and adrenaline-fuelled activities such as thrilling zip lines to fly over the trees, amazing suspension bridges, cultural and culinary experiences to discover Costa Rican traditions, night walks in the jungle to explore the forest's nocturnal secrets, and much more!

Don't miss a cup of locally grown coffee, often paired with traditional pastries such as tamal asado. Tropical fruits like guava and rambutan are abundant and a must-try.

Dive Deeper:

For those keen to explore off the beaten path, visit the Nicoya Peninsula, part of a Blue Zone renowned for longevity. The local currency is the Costa Rican colón (CRC), though US dollars are widely accepted.
