Your Destination

Cambodia has remained hidden from the outside world for much of the last century, but is now emerging from years of isolation and becoming increasingly popular on the traveller's trail.

This fascinating country offers a true taste of Southeast Asia before the arrival of tourism and modernisation. It has a diverse landscape from dusty hot cities and mountainous jungles to beautifully calm bays and pristine beaches. At the turn of the millennium, Siem Reap was a Cambodian provincial town with few facilities, minor surfaced roads and little in the way of nightlife. Now it is a major tourist hub due to its proximity to the world famous temples of Angkor (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, your guide will pick you up and drive you directly to the floating village of Kampong Kleang, which is located 60 km away, east of Siem Reap, and is one of the largest floating villages on Tonle Sap. Kompong Khleang is a permanent community within the flood plain of the Lake, with an economy based in fishing and surrounded by flooded forest. The community largely depends on fishing for survival all year round. Tourism, which started in the village approximately 10 years ago, is also a growing part of the local economy. This village is home to hundreds of families. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant. You will then continue to the Rolous temple group. The ruins of Roulous are among the oldest Khmer monuments in the area, dating back to the 9th century reign of King Indravarman I. There are three key Hindu structures that remain at Roulous; Lolei, Bakong and Preah Ko, which were all part of the ancient city of Hariharalaya. The train itself is very basic - 4WD bamboo platform activated by a small motor. Sit on the bamboo platform and ride it through beautiful landscapes and rice fields.
