Your Itinerary In Brief

Cambodia is emerging from one of the darkest periods in its history with a unique vitality of spirit and will, hand in hand with a great desire for redemption. And for this new phase of its life, this country can count on its wonders, on the immortal charm of the Angkor temples, on the authenticity and hospitality of its inhabitants, on its magnificent natural parks and on its beaches, which have little to envy to neighbouring Thailand and Vietnam.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to extend your stay at the magnificent beach of Koh Rong, the second-largest island of Cambodia, where you can dive into a fairy sea surrounded by wild nature, then have fun in the evening at the parties on the white sand.

Day 2: Phnom Penh - City tour (Breakfast/Lunch)

Once known as the "Pearl of Asia", Phnom Penh was one of the most beautiful cities in the region. Located at the confluence of the Mekong River, Phnom Penh has been the capital of Cambodia for most of the last six centuries. Rich in history, the city offers many cultural and historical sites to discover.

Start your day with a visit to the Royal Palace, originally built in 1866 by the grandfather of the current King of Cambodia. The palace is a complex of splendid royal buildings with classical Khmer roofs, ornate gilding and intricate defensive wall layouts, featuring a great mix of Khmer architecture and a slight French touch. It includes the official residence of the royal family and parts of the huge palace compound, partially open to the public.

Head to the nearby Silver Pagoda, which houses many national treasures, including numerous gold and jewelled Buddha statues. Perched on the grounds of the royal palace, it is the country's most sacred temple.

Take time to learn more about the turbulent years of the Khmer Rouge with a visit to Tuol Sleng, a high school turned interrogation prison known as S-21 during the Khmer Rouge era and now a genocide museum dedicated to presenting the sad story of the thousands of innocent Cambodians who were tortured within its walls. Visit the museum, passing through the buildings' narrow corridors and former classrooms for a glimpse into Cambodia's turbulent past.

Continue to the hillside temple of Wat Phnom, which gave its name to the Cambodian capital. The temple was originally built to preserve four Buddha statues that were discovered in the heart of the Mekong River. Visit the temple surrounded by huge trees and mischievous monkeys as you listen to the legend of Madame Penh, the city's founder.

Access the pier for a good view towards the Mekong and Tonle Sap River.

Overnight in Phnom Penh.

Day 3: Phnom Penh - Fly to Siem Reap (Breakfast)

Free time until transfer to the airport for internal flight to Siem Reap.

On arrival at Siem Reap airport, meet and greet by our driver and transfer to the hotel for check-in.

Day 4: Siem Reap - Banteay Srei - Banteay Samre - Ta Prhom (Breakfast/Lunch)

Your guide will pick you up to explore the complex Angkor.

- Banteay Srei translates as "the citadel of women", a site of interest to almost everyone. The particular charm of this temple lies in its compact size, remarkable state of preservation, and excellence of decorative carving.

- Banteay Srame, the 12th century Hindu temple often compared to a mini Angkor Wat. The rose-coloured sandstone walls are decorated with carvings and bas-reliefs, which are among the most accomplished things Angkor has to offer.

We continue to visit the fabulous Ta Prohm embraced by the roots of huge trees and gigantic vines.

- Prasat Kravan - with its unique brick carvings.

- Srah Srang - The Royal Baths were once used for ritual bathing.

- Banteay Kdei (surrounded by four concentric walls).

- Pre Rup - Last stop to watch the sunset.

Return to the hotel. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 5: Siem Reap - Majestic Angkor temples by tuk tuk (Breakfast/Lunch)

Spend this morning with your guide, discovering the Angkor complex like a local. Depart from your hotel by tuk tuk on shaded roads. Drive through the jungle passing local villages and local shops. This is a very special day of movement as you explore some of the most beautiful temples in Angkor. You will visit the western entrance to Angkor Thom - uncovered by the mass of tourists.

The ancient capital of Angkor Thom (12th century)

See the southern entrance, Bayon Temple, unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara

The Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas

The Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King

In the afternoon, visit the famous temple Angkor Wat, a World Heritage Site since 1992, famous for its beauty and splendour. Angkor Wat features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which runs along the walls of the outer gallery and tells stories of Hindu mythology. It is an ideal place for sunset.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 6: Siem Reap - Floating Village on Tonle Sap Lake (1/2 day) (Breakfast)

The charming town of Siem Reap is defined by the Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO listed site, and the Tonle Sap Lake, where life is simple and slow, with people living on the water, close to nature. For the locals, life on the water is the greatest traditional culture that must be preserved before the rapid development of modern society.

Located 18 kilometres from downtown Siem Reap, Kampong Phluk is one of the most impressive and unspoiled permanent settlements on Tonle Sap Lake. Home to over 3,000 villagers, this charming village allows you to see the submerged mangrove forest and lakeside village life up close. Board the local boat and set off on a relaxing and informative cruise. Immerse yourself in nature and get a glimpse of the diverse village life on the lake as your boat glides between mangroves, stilt houses, the floating school and the police station. Watch floating life unfold as it does everywhere else in Cambodia. Have your camera ready to capture the panoramic view of the Tonle Sap Lake, local women or children crossing the river channel, or the villagers selling and buying goods at a makeshift floating market.

**Note: The boat trip on the Tonle Sap is not recommended during the dry season (March to August) due to the lack of water for navigation. During this period, this tour can be replaced by the Siem Reap countryside tour, the programme below:

Take a tuk tuk to explore one of the local villages, where you can see the daily activities of the locals.

Take a walk through the village to meet shy, but humble villagers. Many children and adults will offer friendly smiles and "hello" during your visits to their village.

Visit a local market where you will discover an unfamiliar mix of colours, smells and sounds as you wander the small alleys and meet some friendlier Khmer people selling and buying a variety of foods and households.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 7: Siem Reap - Battambang (Breakfast/Lunch)

Arrival at Puok village, 15 km from Siem Reap, stop to visit the PUOK National Silk Centre - founded by an NGO in Puok with the aim of reviving Cambodian silk productions. Continue to visit Les Chantiers Ecole - a handicraft centre located in the centre of the town. It was founded in 1992 and its mission is to revive ancient Khmer art. Once there, you will have the opportunity to see young people learning wood carving, weaving, stone carving.

A day to discover the charming city of Battambang.

You will pass through traditional villages along the way to watch family rice cakes being made and chat with locals about daily life. Visit a local farm - Prasat Phnom Banan Vineyard - producing local wine.

Drive to the Phnom Banan area which is home to a variety of tropical fruits and fresh vegetables. After the rainy season, local farmers grow all kinds of vegetables along the fertile river banks. Talk to the local farmers to learn more about their farming life while tasting the seasonal tropical fruits.

Climb 358 steps to reach the 12th century Prasat Banan temple. Enjoy wonderfully peaceful panoramic views of the fertile plains dotted with sugar palms, rice fields and small villages. Enjoy the sunset over the surrounding countryside.

Enjoy one of the most unique train journeys in the world, the Battambang Bamboo Train. Built by local villagers to transport goods and people, this basic "four-wheel drive bamboo platform" is powered by a small engine. Enjoy this special ride on what the locals call the "norry" through the countryside, meeting locals and observing rural Khmer life along the way.

Overnight in Battambang.

Day 9: Battambang - Phnom Penh (Breakfast/Lunch)

After breakfast, transfer to Phnom Penh by the N5 national road stopping in Pursat province, a province famous for marble, so some of the villagers are carvers.
