Salvador

Salvador was founded in 1549 by São Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos, who reigned throughout Brazil for over two centuries. Salvador was the showcase of the Portuguese Colony and second largest city after Lisbon during this time. Today, it is the fourth largest city with over 2,000,000 inhabitants. Salvador is a magical city and the most African of all Brazilian cities. It is an architectural treasure with its delirious splendor of baroque style, represented by churches, and even beautiful sobrados. Full Day Tour of Corcovado and Sugar Loaf with Lunch

Depart from the hotel after breakfast to visit the most famous landmarks of the city and see the natural beauty of Rio de Janeiro from up above. The first stop is at the Christ the Redeemer, located 2,300 ft above sea level. The way up is on a comfortable van that ascends the mountain where the statue of the Christ, known as the “wonder of Rio” was recently elected one of the 7 "New Wonders of the World". Afterwards, descend the mountain and stop for a delicious Brazilian Barbecue lunch.

From there it’s time for another iconic symbol of Rio de Janeiro: the world-famous ‘Pão de Açúcar’, (Sugar Loaf Mountain). Rising up from a small peninsula at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, the journey to the top is made in glass cable-cars which takes passengers to the top of Urca Hill, which rises 215 meters above sea level and offers spectacular views of the entire bay and its surrounding islands. From Urca Hill, passengers continue in a second cable-car to the top of Sugar Loaf, achieving a 360-degree view of the entire city.

Private Walking City Tour of Historical Downtown

Rio de Janeiro was Brazil’s capital for almost two centuries, until 1960. Nowadays, while strolling the streets downtown, it is possible to admire many architectural influences from different periods where historical and modern constructions tell together Rio’s history. This walking tour visits important sites for the history of Rio. The guests will enjoy the city as a real Carioca, using the metro as their transportation. By the end of the visit, in the charming and narrow downtown streets, a stop at the traditional Colombo Café for refreshments, before returning to the hotel.

Half Day Brazilian Falls Visit

Our trip begins at the National Iguaçu Park where we board for a drive through the lush subtropical vegetation of park in route to the falls. Stroll the trail descending the canyon that offers the most panoramic view of more than 240 falls. The Iguassu National Park along with its “sister” park in Argentina forms the most significant remaining rainforest in the southern cone which together with the cataracts has been declared a National Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Half Day Argentinian Falls Visit

At the entrance the passenger will take a little train for a visit through the park with 2 stops until the trail where the walking tour begins to the visit the upper walkways which allow a different and more intimate contact with the falls and the rainforest. The highlight of the trip is a visit to the suspended platform at the very brink of the abysmal Devil’s Throat – largest of the waterfalls.

Half Day Walking Tour of Pelourinho

This tour is a journey through the history of the city of Salvador, and Brazil as well, passing through the most important monuments to the Historical Center, a major urban complex of the colonial period. On the Upper City tour, guests have the opportunity to appreciate the oldest architectural treasures in Bahia. Starting at Farol da Barra, the entrance of the All Saints Bay, where today the City Nautical Museum functions, and then to Porto da Barra, with its two protecting forts of Santa Maria and San Diego and also the traditional neighborhoods of Corredor da Vitória, Piedade and Campo Grande, the heart of carnival in Bahia.

At Municipal Square, there is a beautiful view of Lacerda Elevator, Lower City and the All Saints Bay. It continues to the colorful Pelourinho, with charming colonial houses and streets paved by stones. It is not only one more beautiful place to visit, but is also the symbol of the city, with a great collection of colonial architecture of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. There is the Saint Francis Church too, known as the "golden church", with a baroque interior and covered by gold leaf, as well as the Basilica Cathedral. Pelourinho is an important center of culture and entertainment, with many museums, restaurants, theaters and squares, hosting important shows, such as the internationally known "Olodum Rehearsal".

There has been an increase in reported cases of yellow fever, particularly in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais. Please note that Rio de Janeiro state authorities recommend that all visitors to the state, including to the island of Ilha Grande, are vaccinated against yellow fever.

UK health authorities have classified Brazil as having a risk of Zika virus transmission. You should follow the advice of the National Travel Health Network and Centre.

Malaria is present in parts of the country

If vaccinations or other preventive measures are required, you will need to visit your health professional at least 8 weeks before your trip. In the event that you are referred to a medical facility for treatment, you should contact your insurance/medical assistance company immediately.
