Your Itinerary In Detail —
Day 1 - 3: Ushuaia - Departure and Drake Passage Crossing
Touch down in Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world. Explore this picturesque city's steep streets, or venture out into the local countryside, to the wild and natural archipelago of Tierra del Fuego. This hiker's paradise boasts rugged, snow-capped mountains, icy glaciers, pretty flower meadows and rich wetlands. Board the Ocean Victory in the afternoon, and sail through the calm Beagle Channel.
DAYS 2-3 : Drake Passage Crossing
Cross the famous Drake Passage, the body of water that marks the intersection between the cold Antarctic and the warmer Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Known for its testing conditions and strong westerly winds, this passage can be challenging! The boat's stabilisers, powerful engines and highly trained crew ensure this journey is perfectly safe. The most spirited sailors consider the Drake Passage the feat of a lifetime, and this tour makes the crossing twice! As your journey continues, spot playful seals and penguins dotted about the Antarctic landscape.
Days 4 to 10: South Shetland Islands, Antarctic Peninsula & Return
Over the coming days explore the sub-Antarctic islands of the South Shetland chain, marvelling at the captivating scenery. Weather permitting, the boat will land on the following islands: King George Island, Deception Island (an extinct volcano with waters warm enough for a polar swim!), and Half Moon Island, home to Wilson's storm petrels and chinstrap penguins. As the boat follows the route of the Antarctica Peninsula, an abundance of wildlife will emerge, from snow leopards and fur seals to Weddell seals, orcas, and Humpback whales.
Please note : the itinerary and activities for the next few days are dependent on weather, sea and ice conditions. The itinerary and landings will be determined by the captain and expedition leader and communicated to guests at regular briefings. For this reason, throughout the voyage and during moments of bad weather the ship offers excellent public areas such as the spa, restaurant, bar and library for passengers to spend their free time.
DAYS 8-9 : Departure from Antarctica
Leave Antarctica and spent the next two days at sea, heading back to the calm waters of the Beagle Channel and Ushuaia. Pass iconic Cape Horn en route, a legendary maritime landmark and the southern tip of South America. During your stay at sea, several socialising activities and expedition lectures will be organised on board, perfect for guests wishing to meet other travellers and swap stories over a drink or two.
