Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Arrive in Riyadh
Touch down at Riyadh International Airport, where a friendly representative will meet and escort you to your air-conditioned vehicle for the transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Riyadh.
DAY 2: RIYADH (50 kms)
Today you will tour mystic Riyadh and visit the National Museum, a hub for Saudi national heritage and culture. See an overview of the history of Arabian civilization, and continue on to the nearby Murabba Palace (currently under renovation; exterior visit only).
Stop for lunch in a local Saudi restaurant, and stop by the Masmak Fort, a palace built during the reign of Abdullah bin Rashid in the year 1895 A.D. End the tour with a trip to the kingdom tower and the Faisaliah, before returning to your hotel. Overnight in Riyadh. Breakfast and lunch included.
Day 3: Riyadh - Ha'il by train (642 kms)
Depart for Riyadh’s railway station and board the new fast-train for Ha’il, a speedy journey on a new railway link that takes just 5 hours! The city of Ha’il lies at the foot of the imposing Shammar mountain range, named for one of the largest north Arabian tribes. Renowned for its hospitality, Ha’il is known as the home of Saudi Arabia’s poets and writers.
Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel to drop your bags and head back out to visit the A’Arif Fort and the nearby heritage museum. Sample delicious local delicacies at the traditional market, and pass by the Ha’il Regional Museum. Overnight in Ha'il. Breakfast and dinner included.
DAY 4: HA’IL – JUBBAH – ALULA (580 kms)
Continue on to Jubbah, a city lying on an ancient lake. Several human settlement archaeological sites have been found in the area, and large sandstone outcrops that surround the city are filled with ancient petroglyphs and inscriptions, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
In the past Jubbah benefited from humid periods that turned the arid Arabian Peninsula into a savannah, and wildlife thrived. Ancient carvings of aurochs, cheetahs and lions are amazing evidence of their presence!
Next, pass through the famous desert of Nefud Al Kabir, meaning 'great extent of sand dunes'. Continue to the famous AlUla area and check-in to your next hotel in the early evening. Overnight in AlUla. Breakfast and dinner included.
Day 5: AlUla
Al-Ula is an oasis inhabited for the last 7000 years. Recognised as one of the oldest Arabian kingdoms, in the 1st century BCE the Nabatean people came from Petra and built 94 monumental tombs similar to those in Jordan.
Start your day with visits to two of carving sites, then pass by the historic city of Dedan. Continue to the old city of AlUla, an important stop on the great pilgrimage route to Mecca.
After lunch, visit the sites of Ekma and Abu ‘Aoud, home to ancient scripts and texts. Night in AlUla. Breakfast and dinner included.
DAY 6: ALULA - MADA’IN SALIH – MEDINA (330 km)
Start the day with a visit to the famous Hegra (Mada'in Salih), the southernmost city of the Nabatean Kingdom that flourished due to the caravan trade from the 2nd century BCE until the Roman conquest in 106 CE. Discover incredible monumental tombs, ancient inscriptions, stone structures, and more. In the afternoon visit Jebel Al-Fil and the mighty 'Elephant rock'.
In the afternoon, continue to the city of Medina, passing the old Hijaz railway route. Night in Medina. Breakfast and dinner included.
DAY 7: MEDINA - JEDDAH (415 km)
