Typical food, encounters with the locals, folklore and many authentic experiences are not be missed.
Your Itinerary —
On your way to the hotel, enjoy a sightseeing tour in Bucharest, the “Little Paris of the East”. Discover this fascinating city with wide boulevards, large squares, centuries-old monuments and see its main highlights: the Arch of Triumph, the Victory Avenue, the Revolution Square, the Palace of the Parliament, the Patriarchal Church and many more. Welcome dinner in a local restaurant from the Old Town.
Enjoy a scenic ride towards Transylvania, your destination being the Saxon town of Brasov, also called “The Crown of Transylvania”. This 800 year old town has preserved almost intact its Old Town and the medieval atmosphere. Visit the Black Church, the largest gothic construction of its kind between Istanbul and Vienna. Time at leisure. Dinner in the Old Town and overnight in Brasov.
In Romania live more than 6000 brown bears, which is the largest bear population in Europe. In order to learn more about these beautiful animals you are invited to visit the bear reservation in Zarnesti. The bear reservation was founded in 2005 and it is the first reservation of its kind in Romania. In the 69 hectare reservation live more than 70 brown bears. Your next stop will be in the small village of Bran, where you will visit the fairy-tale-like Dracula Castle. The castle was built by the Saxons from Brasov at the end of the 14th century and served as customs between Wallachia and Transylvania. The legend says that Dracula lived here but history mentions the royal family spending its summers inside the medieval castle. Legend or truth can be found out only during the inside tour.
In the afternoon you will discover the Rasnov Fortress, which was built as part of a defence system for the Transylvanian villages exposed to outside invasions. A decisive aspect for building the citadel on the actual location was the route of the invading armies which were coming from the Bran pass and were passing through Rasnov, on their way to Brasov. Return to Brasov in the evening and have dinner at a local restaurant with a spectacular folklore show. Overnight in Brasov.
This morning continue your tour to the most romantic castles in Eastern Europe. Enjoy a scenic ride along the Prahova Valley and stop in Sinaia, the finest alpine town in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains and once the home of Romania’s first King, Carol I. Here is where you will find the Peles Castle, a superb royal residence built above acres of green meadows, deep inside the forest. Built-in German Renaissance style, the Peles Castle is probably the most beautiful castle in Eastern Europe. Head South towards sunny Dobrogea and overnight in Tulcea, the “Gate of the Danube Delta”. Dinner at the hotel.
The Danube Delta is included in UNESCO’s World Heritage list since 1990, one of the wildest areas of Europe. It is the sanctuary for more than 300 species of birds, being the major migration hub for thousands of birds heading from and to Mongolia, Siberia, India, Africa and China. Visit in the morning the Museum of the Danube Delta and then continue the exploration by boat to the natural reservations, where you may observe cormorants, egrets, swans or pelicans. After a typical lunch, return to Tulcea. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 6: Danube Delta Cruise
Enjoy another cruise in the Danube Delta which takes you up to where the Danube meets the Black Sea. Enjoy another local lunch during the cruise. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Tulcea.
Enjoy a scenic ride to Constanta. The guided tour starts at the ancient Ovid Square, where you visit the Archeological Museum with its outstanding collections of ancient statues and jewels, the Roman Mosaic, and the Orthodox Cathedral St. Peter and Paul. Enjoy some free time at the beach in Mamaia, the finest resort of the Romanian Black Sea Coast and then head North to Bucharest. Dinner with a folk show and wine at one of the local restaurants.
