Your scenic journey continues to Mirbat, the ancient capital of the Dhofar region and the starting point of the Frankincense Route. Salalah
As the oldest independent state in the Arab world, Oman, a country that's perfectly positioned on the southeastern coast of the Arabian peninsula, is the perfect destination for those in search of fascinating history, colourful souqs, towering mosques, and even sun-kissed beaches.
Salalah is the country's tropical centre, a fascinating seaside city with a grand history, majestic natural beauty, and exciting attractions. In the city, the Museum of the Frankincense Land tells the story of the city's past and its link to the famed natural resource, while travellers might also admire the grand entrance to Al Hosn Palace, the residence of the Sultan of Oman! Outside the palace walls, admire the tropical coconut trees along the shore, a marker of the city's tropical climate - head to the city during Khareef, the monsoon season, and see the surrounding area transformed into lush forests.
