Since time immemorial, the Sultanate of Oman has enthralled travellers with its exquisite landscapes, enduring traditions and proud heritage. It is a country where modernity co-exists with the cherished Omani culture – lending a unique charm to this jewel of the Middle East.
The mosque is lavishly decorated and features a 263m prayer carpet, 35 crystal chandeliers (the central one is 14 metres high and 8 metres wide) and a floor entirely paved with marble. The tour takes you into the men's and women's prayer halls, where you are allowed to take photographs.
Visitors may also choose to visit Muttrah Souq, the oldest market place in the capital and offers a fascinating insight into authentic Omani culture. Gold, silver, antiques, spices, dates and frankincense can all be found in abundance in this colourful corner of Muscat. Oman is the home of frankincense so a visit to Muttrah Souq would not be complete without picking up a few pieces of this ancient luxury. Always select your resin crystals by hand and choose the blondest available, these carry the sweetest aroma.

Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Arrival in Oman
Upon arrival in Muscat you will be met by your driver and transferred to your Muscat Hotel (approx. travel time: 14 minutes).
Overnight in Park Inn Muscat with breakfast included.
Start the day with a visit to the magnificent Grand Mosque followed by a drive along the Corniche (water front) to visit the Fish souk and the colourful Muttrah souk. Stop at the Al Alam Palace which is flanked with the 16th century Forts of Mirani & Jalali - perfect for a photo!
Finish the day with a visit the Bait Al Zubair Museum (closed on Fridays) which comprehensively traces Oman’s history and development.
Overnight in Park Inn Muscat with breakfast included.

Check out of your hotel and drive to Seeb Village, home to a bustling fish market on the beach and an excellent place to experience the hustle and bustle of a traditional Oman market. The drive along the conriche also features a lush landscape full of mangroves where its not uncommon to see some beautiful birds.
Continue onto Nakhal Fort, stopping at Barka along the way where you can buy some traditional Omani sweets known as Halwa. The 17th century Nakhal Fort features stunning view from the battlements just shows what a prime position this Fort commands. Even at the height of summer, a breeze carries across the plain and enters the windows of the majlis at the top of the Fort making it a balmy place to sit for a few minutes. Then drive to the famous Nakhal Hot Springs where you can unwind amidst banana, papaya, dates & lime trees.
After visiting the Nakhal hot springs and the Nakhal Fort drive in the direction of Rustaq and onwards to the pretty mountain village of Wakan. This picturesque mountain village, situated a few hundred meters high in the mountains, is famous for its spectacular terrace gardens. Grapes, papaya, pomegranates, bananas and apricots are grown in the terrace fields situated above this village.
End the day at the paradisaical Wadi Adyadh which is known for its spectacular blue-green pools.

After breakfast, continue to Al Awabi. This picturesque drive takes you back thousands of years clearly shown in the stunning sedimentary mountain. Stop at the Bilad Sayt Village – it is one of Oman’s most quaint villages with an antique old world appeal. Explore this tranquil village and you uncover its patchwork of terrace farming and traditional houses laid out against the rocky slopes. Continue onto Al Hamra Village where old clay houses are nestled among lush irrigated land.

Start the day exploring the pretty mountain village of Misfah which is well-known for its old stone houses & its position above a steep gorge only increases its appeal. Afterwards, continue to Oman's Grand Canyon which starts at the summit of Jabal Shams (the mountain of sun) which is about 3000m & the highest peak in Oman.
Upon arrival at Bahla Village, leave your vehicle at the village square (right after the Fort) and to go wandering in the village on foot. This town is famous in and beyond Oman as the center of “Black Magic”.
The day culminates with a trip to Jabreen Castle, the most famous castle of Oman which back to the 17th century and was formerly the residence of the local Imam. Highlights include a beautiful ceiling painting and wooden carving (open to visitors 09.00 to 16.00 hrs Saturday to Thursday and on Fridays 08.00 to 11.00 hrs).

Day 6: Nizwa Souk & Fort - Sinaw Souk - Wadi Bani Khalid
The traditional Nizwa market is famous for its artefacts. Nizwa Fort is one of the oldest forts in Oman and features a spectacular view.
Drive through the town of Sinaw until you reach a place where small trucks and pick-up vans are parked outside the marketplace (enclosed within a high wall). Park your car next to one of the gates and enter the market on foot. Every day there's a very interesting Bedouins’ market which is at its most interesting on Thursdays - camels, goats, sheep, dried fish and sacks full of dates are the most popularly traded goods (best time to visit: the cattle auction on Thursdays between 07:00 & 08:30 hrs) the souk will remain open until 11:00 hrs).
Continue to Wadi Bani Khalid: caves form some of the interesting features of this wadi. These include Kahf Maqal which is one of the Sultanate's underground chambers.
Overnight in 1000 Night Camp on a half board basis.
Return to Muscat via a beautiful coastal road. Stop in Sur along the way to see where the famous dhows are made and then proceed to Fins, a small coastal village which is famous for one of the most beautiful stretches of white sand which is perfect for a picnic followed by a cooling swim.
Highlights include the Wadi Arbayaan, an adventurous route cutting through the mountains which leads to an unspoilt spot with deep pools of water set among the date palms.
If you have chosen a 7 night stay please continue to Muscat for your last night in Oman before your flight home. If you have chosen a 9 night stay please continue to Barr Al Jissah for your 3 night stay.
