Your Destination —
Known as the Windy City, this friendly city is a coastal hub in the Eastern Cape with a 40km stretch of beaches (some with world-class Blue Flag-status), protected areas for swimming and an array of watersports on offer including fishing, surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling and sailing.
Historical and cultural icons worth visiting in Port Elizabeth include the Red Location Museum, a museum in New Brighton township that portrays ‘both the horrors of institutionalised racism and the heroic efforts of the anti-apartheid movement', and Route 67 – a collection of 67 art pieces celebrating the years Nelson Mandela devoted to public life.
An outdoor-lover’s paradise, don’t miss out on boat cruises, diving opportunities, a visit to the Seaview Predator Park and an excursion to Bayworld (which incorporates an oceanarium, museum and snake park).
The park, the third largest in South Africa, offers a wide range of game viewing and outdoor activities, which include horse-back and horse-riding, guided walking, hiking and 4x4 trails and a picnic area for day visitors. Nothing could be better if you are a bush lover.
Go to Addo and see the famous Addo elephants as well as mile after mile of verdant citrus trees, bearing fruit all winter and scenting the air with their blossoms in springtime.
