Your Itinerary —
This exciting itinerary invites you to uncover the northern Indian state of Rajasthan, home to diverse cities including Jaipur and Udaipur. For 7 nights you will travel through Rajasthan aboard the Palace on Wheels, ranked one of the most luxurious trains in the world.
This mobile hotel concept was once only reserved for Maharajas and today the Palace on Wheels aims to recreate that regal ambience with newly renovated cars and classic majestic decor.
This is a thrilling 8-night itinerary with the option of an additional night at a five-star hotel in Delhi.
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. As the capital of India, Delhi is a diverse metropolitan area that is home to seven cities. Caught between ancient vestiges and a fast-paced modernity, Delhi is a place where local bazaar’s and historic treasures collide together with dazzling skyscrapers and contemporary shopping complexes. After settling into your hotel you can enjoy free time in the afternoon to explore some of Delhi’s most incredible sites including the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and the vibrant markets of Old Delhi.

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the train station.
4.30 pm: check-in at the Palace on Wheels to complete registration. Boarding formalities are taken care of by our representatives at the station. Upon arrival, you will receive a welcome drink and the Khidmatgars (butlers) will take you on a quick tour before escorting you to your cabin.
6.30 pm: Dinner will be served in the restaurant wagon. The train will depart on route to Jaipur.
7:00 am: Breakfast is served in the comfort of your sleeper cabin.
8:15 am: The first stop on your journey is Jaipur, also known as The Pink City. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan, founded by the Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727. In order to explore the city, an air-conditioned bus will take you to the Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds), a remarkable Hindu palace constructed of pink sandstone. The tour group will then visit Albert Hall and City Palace, the seat of the former royal family. Opposite the City Palace, we will find Jantar Mantar, an observatory that was constructed in the 18th Century by Sawai Jai Singh II and boasts the world’s largest sundial.
1:30 pm: Enjoy a memorable elephant ride to Fort Amber, followed by a wholesome lunch. You will then be free to visit Amber Fort, an incredible fortress set upon a hilltop. Close to the fort you will find plenty of markets and bazaars with jewels, local crafts, carpets, blue pottery, and textiles.
18:00: The bus will return to the Palace on Wheels where dinner will be served.
5:45 am: Wake up to views of wide open spaces when the train arrives at Sawai Madhopur. From here a visit is planned to the Ranthambore National Park, a wildlife sanctuary with 10th Century ruins. This sanctuary is considered as the best wildlife enclosure in India covering 392 square meters of parkland. It is home to tigers, hyena, ratels, jackals and over 300 bird species.
9:15 am: After the safari, we will return to the Palace on Wheels for breakfast.
13:00: Lunch will be served on board on the way to Chittorgarh.
4.30 pm: Chittorgarh is a historic city that is home to the iconic Chittorgarh Fort. This 7th Century landmark is one of the largest forts in India consisting of Jain temples, palaces, and astonishing views of the surrounding greenery. When the sun sets you can also enjoy the fort’s wonderful sound and light show.
19:00: The bus will return to the Palace on Wheels where dinner will be served. The train will depart in the early morning for Udaipur.
7:00 am: Arrival at Udaipur (breakfast will be served on board).
8:30 am: This city was founded by Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar after the Sisodia dynasty was expelled by the Mughals. In the morning you will visit the Fountain Garden and the Durbar Museum, and enjoy a delicious lunch at the Fateh Prakash Palace Hotel, home to an impressive crystal gallery.
1:30 pm: After lunch you will discover one of Udaipur's most beautiful sights, crossing Lake Pichola to the City Palace, the largest architectural complex in Rajasthan.
15:00: The bus will return to the Palace on Wheels where dinner will be served.
7:30 am: Breakfast is served in your sleeper cabin.
9.30am: Jaisalmer, located in the heart of the Thar Desert, was founded by Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD. A yellow sandstone fort dominates the city where visitors can observe examples of stone masonry at the Nathmalji-ki-Haveli, Patwon-ki-Haveli, and Salim Singh-ki-Haveli.
13:00: Lunch at the Palace Hotel.
4:00 pm: After lunch, we will take a camel ride across the sand dunes before enjoying a refreshing tea.
5:30 pm: The bus will return to the Palace on Wheels where you can unwind and change for the evening.
7:45 pm: Enjoy dinner and cultural performances at the Palace Hotel. After dinner, the bus will return to the Palace on Wheels.
7:00 am: Breakfast is served in your cabin.
9:00 am: This morning the Palace on Wheels takes you to Jodhpur, a city surrounded by ramparts with seven gates and many bastions. Founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 AD this city is famed for the Mehrangarh Fort, an impressive structure made from stone. The sites of Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana, and Daulat Khana are also brilliant examples of the architectural excellence of the city.
1:15 pm: Lunch served at the hotel.
15:30: The bus will return to the Palace on Wheels where dinner will be served.
6:00 am: The Palace on Wheels will arrive in Bharatpur, the capital of Maharaja Suraj Mal. Take a tour of the world famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, home to thousands of egrets, Siberian cranes, migratory waterfowl, and many other bird species.
8:30 am: The bus will return to the Palace on Wheels for breakfast and head towards Agra.
11:00 AM: Arrive in Agra and visit the Red Fort followed by lunch at a hotel.
15:00: In the afternoon you will visit the magnificent Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Built by King Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal, this monument is a renowned symbol of eternal love. In Agra, you can also explore its splendid marble work at Petra Dura on the Taj, or, shop for leather products and bespoke jewellery at the city’s bustling markets.
8:00 pm: Enjoy a farewell dinner at the hotel and return to Palace on Wheels.
7:00 am: Breakfast is served in your cabin.
7:30 am: Arrive at Safdarjung station where you guide will transport you to your hotel.
Today you will have free time to explore Delhi. Meals are included. Overnight at hotel.
Day 10: DELHI / RETURN TO UK
Palace on Wheels —
Stay in a Deluxe Cabin or a Superior Deluxe Cabin on a Full Board basis (including tea, coffee, and mineral water only).
On this journey through Rajasthan, you will experience attentive service in this well-equipped train with new cabins that offer extra space and comfort. Each car contains three spacious bedrooms with an en-suite bathroom. You will also receive a butler service ("Khidmatgar") to ensure that you have an enjoyable stay.
On board, you will find two lounge bars complete with board games and newspapers, and a spa car with a menu of rejuvenating treatments. You can also enjoy classic Indian flavours in one of two restaurants as you gaze out onto the ever-changing landscape.
It is not possible to stay in an individual cabin. Babies and children are not permitted to stay on this train.

Stay in a Standard Room on a Bed and Breakfast basis.
Located in the modern and lively Connaught Place, this hotel is just 10 minutes from Delhi Railway Station. It boasts an outdoor swimming pool, relaxing spa, and a famous nightclub.
