DAY 3: RIO SIGHTSEEING EXCURSION

Visit Rio's most iconic sites and emblematic monuments. The Corcovado mountain dominates Rio, at over 710 m high, crowned by the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer.

You'll also see the Maracanã Stadium (outside only), which was inaugurated on 16th June 1950 for the World Cup. Although its initial capacity was 200,000 seats, it has since been reduced, with 78,838 seats for the 2014 World Cup.

Walk down the Sambrodromo, an avenue surrounded by stands where the parade of the best samba schools takes place during the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro.

Visit the Cathedral and the Selarón staircase. Stop for lunch, and then visit the Sugarloaf Mountain. The Sugarloaf is a true symbol protecting the entrance to Guanabara Bay. It is 395 m high and offers an exceptional panorama of the city.

Breakfast and lunch included.

DAY 4: FAVELA TOUR

The favela tour is an enriching experience for those who want to discover what life in Brazil is like for many inhabitants, and introduce you to a different side of Brazilian society.

'Favela' is the term for the neighbourhoods that were formerly slums or shantytowns that were neglected by the government. Today there are around 1000 favelas in Rio, and it's estimated that around 20% of the Carioca population live here.

You'll visit Rochinha, the largest in the country. Very picturesque when seen from afar, discover the creative, complex architecture of the neighbourhood, home to lively commercial activity and a very friendly population. Most of the Samba Schools that participate in the Carnival parade come from the favelas.

Lunch in a typical Brazilian restaurant. Afternoon free to enjoy the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema where locals and tourists take the opportunity to do all sorts of sports including jogging, cycling and beach volleyball. But the most popular sport is of course football!

There are many bars on the seafront, so you can try the famous coconut juice, which is drunk from the nut with a straw. You'll also find açai, a typical Brazilian fruit that can be enjoyed in the form of a smoothie.

Breakfast included.

Day 5: Tropical Island Excursion

Group excursion to the Tropical Islands:

Located 170 km south of Rio, Angra dos Reis Bay has 365 islands! A magical place dotted with mountains, the islands are covered with jungle  and suitable for beautiful hikes, and also scuba diving.

You'll take a transfer by coach (2 hours 30 mins) and then you'll spend the day onboard a Goellette. Stop at three islands for swimming - Cataguases, Freguesia de Santana, Lagoa Azul and Japariz beach, where you'll have lunch. Return to your hotel in the early evening.

Breakfast and lunch included.

DAY 6: FREE DAY

Your Destination

Rio De Janeiro

Presided over by the iconic Christ the Redeemer sculpture, Rio de Janeiro is an instantly-recognisable city with heaps of attractions. Its city centre offers a mix of quaint colonial architecture, modern businesses, and a sun-drenched beach, making it the perfect place for a memorable, one-of-a-kind city trip.

The home of Samba and the Caipirinha cocktail, this city has an unmistakable party atmosphere - make the most of this by taking a visit to the Sambadrome, which hosts the official Rio Carnival in the week before Lent, but where you can see the local samba schools rehearsing from December onwards. End your day exploring the city’s bars, sampling not only the iconic cocktail, but a chope, a draught beer characteristically served in tall glasses.

Of course, the unmissable attraction in the city is the magnificent Christ the Redeemer, a beautiful sculpture in the top of Corcovado Hill and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Travellers can opt to take the charming tram to the top of the hill, where you’re greeted by a spectacular view of the city centre, plus Sugarloaf Mountain and Copacabana beach!
