DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN TAIPEI

 

Taipei, the capital, is a vibrant urban hub, home to the iconic Taipei 101 tower and some of Asia’s best street food. Night markets, such as those in Shilin or Tainan, are a must for foodies—think bubble tea, stinky tofu, and oyster omelettes.

 

There's a dynamic cultural scene that pulses with creativity, from literature and music to art and cinema. Taiwan's film industry has made waves on the global stage, with renowned directors like Ang Lee leading the charge and earning international acclaim.

 

 

  • After you land in Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), you'll be met by our local travel partner. 
  • Enjoy a private transfer to your hotel.
  • Kick back and rest after the journey, or set off to start exploring the lively capital city.

DAY 2: TAIPEI

 

  • The first visit of the day is to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial, an impressive monument to the eponymous president.
  • This will be followed by a stop at the Grand Hotel Taipei, a historical site providing a good photo opportunity.
  • En route, your guide will give you a short introduction to the Presidential Office Building, a symbolic address in the Taiwanese capital.
  • Continue onwards to Martyrs' Shrine to see the impressive changing of the guard, a rather solemn ceremony.
  • The last stop of the day is the National Palace Museum, famous for its collection of nearly 700,000 pieces of ancient Chinese artefacts and artworks, spanning some 8,000 years of Chinese art across different dynasties.

DAY 3: Lake Sun-Moon

Separated by Lalu Island, this lake owes its unique name to the fact that, on the eastern side, it resembles the sun, while its western side resembles the waxing moon.

 

This scenic area is also the ancestral home of the Thao people, one of Taiwan's indigenous groups with a rich culture. With expert commentary from your guide, you'll enrich your appreciation of the history and importance of this region.

 

  • After breakfast, depart from central Taipei and travel to the heart of the island, to Lake Sun-Moon.
  • In the afternoon, travel around the lake, to discover the area's most famous attractions.
  • Start with a visit to Ita Thao, an indigenous village that provides insight into the culture and way of life of the Thao people.
  • Next, admire the grandeur of the Ci'en Pagoda, an iconic monument on Lake Sun-Moon built by former president Chiang Kai-shek in memory of his mother.
  • Stop at two important temples: the Xuanzang Temple and the Wenwu Temple.

DAY 4: TAINAN

 

Tainan is Taiwan's oldest city known for its abundance of historic buildings and rich historical heritage.

 

  • After a delicious breakfast, depart for Tainan.
  • Continue your journey to Fort Zeelandia and take a stroll along what was the country's very first named street - Anping Old Street, built by the Dutch 300 years ago.
  • During your visit, don't miss the chance to taste delicious local specialities, adding an enriching culinary experience to your historic trip to Tainan.
  • After lunch, visit the romantic port city of Kaohsiung.
  • Visit an important Buddhist monastery, where an impressive 36-metre-high golden Buddha statue stands, and you'll be warmly welcomed by learned monks who are happy to chat to visitors.

DAY 5: ZHIBEN

Outside the cities, Taiwan offers some of the best outdoor experiences in East Asia. Hiking trails crisscross its mountainous spine, hot springs bubble in scenic spots like Beitou and Wulai, and the east coast offers epic surf. Cycling enthusiasts can explore Taiwan’s well-maintained bike trails that circle the island.

 

  • Today you'll travel to Kenting National Park, known for its coastal geological formations, scenic landscapes and rich marine biodiversity.
  • Make several stops, including Maopitou, which translates literally as ‘the cat's nose’. Stop at Chuanfan Rock, ‘the rock of sail’, as well as Eluanbi Lighthouse and Longpan Park - a coral limestone plateau overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
  • After exploring Kenting National Park, your journey will take you to Taitung via the scenic South Link Highway, allowing you to enjoy the changing scenery along the way.

DAY 6: TAITUNG - EAST COAST NATIONAL PARK - HUALIEN - YILAN

 

  • Today you'll continue your tour along the east coast, to the most untouched spot on the island.

  • En route, visit some impressive spots, including Xiaoyehliu, Sanxiantai, Shitiping and Fanshuliao, each of which is distinguished by its unique geological features.

DAY 7: YILAN - TAIPEI

 

  • After a short drive, arrive at today's first stop, the Kavalan distillery, a must-see for whisky lovers. As Taiwan's largest whisky producer, Kavalan has earned an international reputation for its exquisite single malts.
  • Next, continue exploring at the National Centre for Traditional Arts. This cultural gem showcases Taiwan's traditional arts and crafts in beautifully designed surroundings.
