3rd Day: Exploring Riga
After breakfast at hotel, head out and explore the city. We have 2 suggestions!
Visit to Central Market of Riga.
It is not only one of the largest marketplaces in Eastern Europe in area, but also one of the most visited, as 80,000-100,000 people shop there per day on the average. Architecturally-imposing food pavilions, built in the 1920s, are Riga Central Market’s calling card. Originally used as military airship hangars, they were later transformed into market venues. Riga Central Market is unique not only with its pavilions but also with its old warehouses or the so-called spikeri (from German Spéicher), which have now been turned into a hip arts & entertainment quarter. In 1998, the vast territory of Riga Central Market was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Egles Craft Fair
Latvian craft fair at the open-air leisure park "Egle", the largest open-air recreational venue in Riga's Old Town, offers the best from local craftsmen. Socks, mittens and scarves that are not only practical but also beautiful, linen table cloths and napkins, jewellery for girls and ladies, wooden household items and toys, and many, many other things can be bought at the "Egle" fair. The open-air leisure park "Egle" hosts performances by local musicians and offers delicious Latvian cuisine and best Latvian beer brands. If the bear is to your liking, you may also buy a unique beer jug - Latvian ceramics are well-known worldwide.
