Your Itinerary —
This offer includes a one night hotel stay in Rome pre-cruise (London departures) or post-cruise (Manchester departures)
Day 1 of cruise: Civitavecchia, Italy - Depart 17:00
The port city of Civitavecchia lies about an hour from Italy's capital and is where your MSC luxury cruise liner will dock before taking lucky cruise holiday-makers to the city of Rome.
Palermo is the capital of the Italian island, Sicily, an island renowned as a vacation destination due to its great beauty and historical significance. Once an important Mediterranean centre, Palermo still displays the grandeur of its former greatness. Leave the ship in Palermo's port and journey back in time; visit Agrigento and the 'Valley of the Temples', one of the most important archaeological sites in the world and a UNESCO heritage site since 1998.
With an unsurpassed collection of original Baroque architecture, fortified city walls overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and the spectacular Co-Cathedral of St John, which features intricately carved stone vaults and a famed painting by Caravaggio, it is no wonder that this smallest of European capital cities is a world heritage site.
Day 4: At sea. Have a break from sight seeing and take advantage of all that the ship has to offer.
This colourful city vibrates with life. It's style, looks and energy is unmatched. Stroll down the iconic Las Ramblas and marvel at the variety of street performances you will find there. As you wonder around the city you will be captivated by the unique architecture, from the medieval centre of the city, Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter) with its breathtaking majesty to La Ribera, home to the celebrated Museu Picasso, and the chic El Raval where cool bars, restaurants and boutiques can be found.
But as endlessly fascinating as these districts are their is so much more to Barcelona than it's own city. Discover tapas bars hidden down alleys little changed for a century or two or engross yourself in the striking contemporary art museum MACBA.
Whether it's basking in the Mediterranean sunshine or being cooled by the famous Mistral wind France's second largest city and the capital of the Provence-Côte d'Azur region, is always a fascinating place to visit and a wonderful place for a leisurely lunch.
As France's most important port, Marseille boasts connections with Africa, Italy and Spain. The strong mistral wind blows away all traces of pollution and provides a clarity of air so pure that many famous artists have been attracted to the city: Cézanne; Braque; Derain; Dufy and Marquet.
Cradled between land and sea and with a working port, the Italian vacation destination of Genoa on the west coast of Italy displays its past through her many palaces and the surrounding ancient terraced hills.
Genoa has many different faces; at once a modern metropolis and a rigorous custodian of artistic heritage, as well as an industrious marketplace with centuries-old parks perfect for relaxation. She hides her riches in an historical centre that looks traditionally seaward yet at the same time exhibits a new beauty achieved by restoring the splendour of ages past.
Day 8: Civitavecchia, Italy to disembark
