Your Itinerary —
Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, is a cosmopolitan, Mediterranean city where you will find Roman remains and medieval neighbourhoods mixed with some of the best examples of 20th century art nouveau and avant-garde.
The winding backstreets offer something new around each corner. The pedestrian streets in the Old Town, the numerous parks and the magnificent waterfront and its modern architectural design all hold their own secrets. At the same time, they are testimony to the successful blend of old and new which characterises the city.
Day 2 Transfer to port, embark ship in Barcelona
Day 3 Palma, Mallorca
The best views are reserved by those who arrive by sea. The circular white battlements of Bellver Castle sit on a hill overlooking the towering gothic cathedral, a wonder that took 400 years to build. Mallorca also leads the way in man-made pearls.
Day 4 Marseille (Provence), France
Whether it's basking in the Mediterranean sunshine or being cooled by the famous Mistral wind France's second-largest city and the capital of the Provence-Côte d'Azur region, is always a fascinating place to visit and a wonderful place for a leisurely lunch.
As France's most important port, Marseille boasts connections with Africa, Italy and Spain. The strong mistral wind blows away all traces of pollution and provides a clarity of air so pure that many famous artists have been attracted to the city: Cézanne; Braque; Derain; Dufy and Marquet.
Day 5 La Spezia, Italy
Situated minutes to the east of the famous Cinque Terre by train, the port town of La Spezia is home to atmospheric winding streets and traditional trattorias showcasing the best of Ligurian cuisine.
The picturesque 'Cinque Terre' are a collection of five former fishing towns, famed for their photogenic architecture - pastel hued houses crowded together on the shoreline, tumbling down into the azure sea.
Day 6 Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy
Rome has everything you could want from a modern city break holiday but critically, it's the city's history that acts as the principal magnet. From the remains of its imperial glory days to the Renaissance and baroque riches of its historic centre, Rome is a glorious architectural patchwork - a living masterpiece.
Begin your journey at the Vatican City, declared an independent state in 1929 and home to St. Peter's Basilica (the largest church in the world), the Vatican Museum and the shining star of the Italian Renaissance, the Sistine Chapel. The awe-inspiring architecture and art collection makes the Vatican City top of the list of must-sees.
Day 7 Naples, Italy
The famous city of Naples is a treasure trove of gastronomy, architecture, music and art with a rich cultural and historical heritage. Founded in the 8th-9th Century BC as a Greek colony, Naples is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world, and its 4,200 acre city centre is actually the largest in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
With the city being the birthplace of pizza, Naples has a wealth of authentic wood-burning oven pizzerias to try during your stay. The city is famous for its cuisine and wine, drawing culinary influences from the numerous cultures that have inhabited over the course of time such as Greek, French and Spanish.
