Sydney is one of Australia’s largest cities, with its most recognisable landmarks being the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. Most city tours revolve around water; catch a ferry and cruise Sydney Harbour to Manly, where you can enjoy a full day’s sightseeing cruise or speed across the harbour in a high-speed jet boat. The beaches and bays are popular to indulge in all kinds of water-based activities such as surfing, sailing and scuba diving.
Day 2: Sydney - Half-day city/harbour/beaches tour (Included)
Embark on an included half-day tour of Sydney's city, harbour and beaches. Stop off at the bayside suburbs including Vaucluse and Watsons Bay, before visiting Macquarie Lighthouse and Bondi Beach, the world-renowned surf mecca.
Day 3: Sydney - Full-day Blue Mountains National Park tour (Optional)
You can choose to head on a full-day Blue Mountains tour (for an additional fee). This trip includes lunch in a country restaurant, as well as admission to the Waradah Aboriginal Centre, Featherdale Wildlife Park and Blue Mountains National Park.
Stay 3 nights in a double room at the Sydney Travelodge Sydney (meals are not included).
The critically acclaimed Field of Light Uluru by the internationally celebrated artist Bruce Munro has now been extended until 31 December 2020. The exhibition, aptly named Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku or ‘looking at lots of beautiful lights’ in local Pitjantjatjara is Munro’s largest work to date.
Overwhelming in size, covering more than seven football fields, it invites immersion in its fantasy garden of 50,000 spindles of light, the stems breathing and swaying through a sympathetic desert spectrum of ochre, deep violet, blue and gentle white.
Your Field of Light experience begins with a convenient hotel pick-up and short transfer to the remote desert location. As darkness falls, 50,000 slender stems crowned with radiant frosted-glass spheres will gently bloom with rhythms of coloured light. Temporarily lose yourself in this monumental light installation as its pathways draw you in.
Morning: Travel through the landscape to the entrance of Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. From there is it a 40-kilometre journey through the desert landscape to the mighty rock formation. On arrival at the viewing area, you walk to the best vantage point to see the 36 domes that comprise this spiritual place while watching the suns morning glow as the desert comes alive.
We make our way to the western side of Kata Tjuta where you will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy an outback picnic breakfast. As you approach the entrance to Walpa Gorge, named for the wind (Walpa) that whistles between the massive domes that shape Kata Tjuta, the result of eons of weathering and continual upheaval, your guide will share the significance of this men’s sacred ceremonial site.
Afternoon: Explore the most profound and culturally significant monolith in Australia. Departing the resort, the tour will travel through the landscapes to the entrance of the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. From this point, it is only a matter of minutes before the spectra of Uluru rises from the sand dunes to demonstrate its enormity and presence in this country. Our first step allows you a photographic opportunity of this amazing icon.
As you drive around the base of Ayer's Rock, your guide will take you to the entrance of Mutitjulu Waterhole, a semi-permanent watercourse nestled in the contours of Uluru. Here you will learn the Creation stories of Liru (poisonous snake) and Kuniya (python) as well as a number of other stories associated with other prominent Tjukurpa (Dreaming) stories. You will see the rock art of the ancients and learn how Uluru was, and still is, a significant location for teaching young Aboriginal people.
We then adjourn to the new Talinguru Nyakunytjaku viewing area where you will observe an uninterrupted view of Uluru with Kata Tjuta in the background. Your guide will then return you to your accommodation.
Before your flight to Cairns, you can choose to embark on a helicopter tour of Uluru with the opportunity to take photos of the monolithic landscape from above.
