How To Make The Most Of Your Weekend In Benidorm

Spend your days in Benidorm admiring a skyline of the old and new from sandy beaches with crystal blue seas

A big attraction for those choosing a weekend in Benidorm are the outstanding beaches, with soft golden sand and crystal clear waters - the perfect location for sun, sand and sangrias. In fact, Benidorm has some of the best beaches in Europe, with the coveted Blue Flag standard. The beaches are also the ideal viewing point for stunning architecture - whether you are drawn to the Old Town, with its quaint cobbled streets and Spanish traditional structures or the newer skyscrapers that have sprung up more recently.

Levante Beach is a two-kilometre stretch of pristine sand, with a backdrop of skyscrapers and newer buildings, with over 5000 sun loungers ready and waiting for those enjoying a weekend in Benidorm. With everything you need ready for you on Levante Beach, there are plenty of activities to get stuck into on the beach and in the sea. Whether you want to work on your tan in the glorious sunshine, cool off in the sparkling blue waters or try something more adventurous like a jet ski ride or an inflatable in the sea.

You’ll find plenty of bars, restaurants and food vendors on hand for when you work up an appetite. Levante Beach is buzzing with energy and fun, ideal for those who want to have fun in the sun on a weekend in Benidorm.

For those who want a quieter environment, Poniente Beach is smaller than its neighbour and attracts those who truly want to relax. The stunning white sands and clear blue seas are a favourite with those who want to spend the weekend soaking up the sun and leaving their worries behind. There are plenty of places to get great food and drink along the beach and promenade. As with everywhere in Benidorm, the food and drink outlets are reasonably priced and good quality.

Separating two incredible stretches of sandy beaches is the Balcón del Mediterráneo Viewpoint. Originally built centuries ago to protect the coastline from pirates, the Viewpoint is a must visit for anyone spending a weekend in Benidorm. Following a simple path down onto the stone balustrade, you can look out on the endless blue seas or back at the spectacular skyline. A wonder to visit day or evening – try to catch one of Benidorm’s famous sunsets for a truly romantic and picturesque moment. Make sure to have your camera ready!

For a beach a little off the beaten track, Malpas beach is popular with Spanish tourists, attracting fewer crowds than the main strip of beaches, the extra walk is worth it for an impressive cove of natural beauty. Malpas Beach is also popular with sea swimmers and snorkellers, with some rocky outposts ideal for spotting natural underwater beauty.

For adrenaline junkies, a weekend in Benidorm has lots to offer with a theme park, water park and wildlife park with a difference

For those thrill-seeking travellers amongst you, Benidorm has lots to offer, with theme parks and water parks available at great value, especially when booking in advance.

Terra Mitica is a theme park with five zones themed on ancient myths and civilizations. With everything from the longest wooden roller coaster in Europe to a 120-degree giant discus, this theme park has it all. As you wander amongst the attractions, there are plenty of live entertainers, acrobats and circus performers to keep you entertained.

For those who prefer to keep cool, why not visit Aqualandia, Benidorm’s top water park. Choose from over 20 different water slides, including the 33-metre high Vertigo, built into the hillside, which offers unrivalled views of the beauty of Benidorm. For those less adventurous, Aqualandia also has outstanding natural beauty spots with sub-tropical palm trees to shade under. When you’ve worked up an appetite, there’s plenty of food outlets to choose from on-site too, making it the perfect day out and alternative to the beaches to enjoy the sun.

Those seeking a different kind of thrill may enjoy a visit to Terra Natura, described as a "zooimmersion" experience, where you can get up close to wildlife and zoo animals. Split into four different areas, this wildlife park with a difference is home to many animals from small spiders to giant elephants. A highlight is being able to descend via zip wire over the elephants as they graze.

A weekend in Benidorm isn’t complete without exploring the lively, buzzing nightlife

Whether you’re looking for bars, clubbing, cocktails on the beach or sensational food, a weekend in Benidorm doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. The nightlife in Benidorm is always busy – with a wide range of experiences depending on what you’re looking for. There are some amazing beach bars, offering the chance to sip sangria on the beach and watch the sun go down. Then there is the Promenade, with bars to dance, drink and let your hair down. The Old Town has some beautiful restaurants and a quieter but thriving nightlife. But if you truly want to experience Benidorm’s nightlife, head down to the Square to dance from dusk till dawn!

Sunshine, long days and tropical nights in this sunshine destination

If you visit Benidorm between June and October, you can expect warm temperatures, on average between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius. There are long daylight hours, making for maximum time on the beach and enjoying the sunshine, with tropical nights for sitting outside the beach bars with a refreshing cocktail. Benidorm is a safe and fun weekend destination, with lots to see and do and plenty of places to lie back and relax in beautifully hot weather – don’t forget the sunscreen!
