Tenerife —
The largest of Spain's Canary Islands, Tenerife is a leading tourist destination that promises buzzing nightlife, diverse beaches, a rocky, volcanic terrain and one of the country's most impressive and popular national parks.
Must-sees:
Mount Teide National Park: Towering at 3,718 meters, Spain’s highest peak is a natural wonder. Take a cable car ride for jaw-dropping views or hike the rugged trails through an otherworldly volcanic landscape.
La Laguna: A beautifully preserved colonial town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, La Laguna is known for its cobbled streets, pastel-coloured mansions, and lively café culture.
Los Gigantes Cliffs: These breathtaking cliffs rise dramatically from the Atlantic, best admired from a boat tour or while enjoying fresh seafood at a seaside restaurant.
Culinary culture:
Tenerife’s food scene is as diverse as its landscape. Tuck into Papas Arrugadas, wrinkled potatoes with Mojo sauce, or feast on fresh seafood like grilled octopus. Don’t miss a glass of Malvasía wine or a post-dinner Barraquito, a sweet and boozy layered coffee.
Dive deeper:
Take a scenic drive through Masca, a picturesque mountain village with jaw-dropping views. Experience the electric energy of Santa Cruz Carnival, one of the world’s biggest and most colourful festivals. For a truly magical encounter, go whale and dolphin watching in the waters between Tenerife and La Gomera.
Good to know:
With its subtropical climate, Tenerife is a year-round destination. The best time to visit is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is mild, and the crowds are fewer. The currency is the Euro (€), and while Spanish is the official language, English is widely understood in tourist areas.
