The historic capital of Spain oozes with culture, cuisine, and a decidedly cosmopolitan atmosphere. The Gran Vía is the place to experience the city’s modern vibes - this thoroughfare connects the two halves of the city and offers exciting shops, lively nightlife, cinemas and theatres.
After soaking up the city’s bustling streets, escape to the Museo del Prado, where you can admire the works of famous Spanish artists including Goya, El Greco, da Ribera, and Velázquez. Along with the nearby Reina Sofia Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, this forms Madrid’s Golden Triangle of Art. In between art visits, see the Real Jardín Botánico, an 8-hectare botanical garden founded by King Ferdinand VI.
A trip to Madrid wouldn’t be complete without tasting some of the city’s fantastic food, and the vibrant thoroughfare of Calle Cava Baja is the perfect place to try Madrid’s best tapas.
