Your destinations —
Ischia
Famed for its abundance of thermal springs, sandy beaches, and verdant greenery, the island of Ischia is a world apart from busy Capri, which is located just 30 km away. Still a fairly undiscovered Italian island, here you can enjoy a slow holiday filled with the best local seafood, stunning landscapes, and charming seafront hotels.
A one-hour ferry from Naples drops travellers at Ischia Porto, a bustling seafront town with plenty of shopping opportunities - try some of Ischia’s famed limoncello to get a true taste of this vibrant island. This tiny volcanic island is truly compact - just a 30-minute drive from north to south - meaning it’s possible to experience every part of it during your stay. Enjoy a delicious Ischian meal on the seafront in Sant’Angelo, walk to the picturesque Castello Aragonese, which juts out into the Mediterranean Sea, or bathe in warm thermal waters in Negombo Thermal Park: Ischia has it all!
Capri
The magnificent Isle of Capri emerges from the Tyrrhenian Sea, facing the Sorrento peninsula. It became famous in 1826, following the discovery of the Grotta Azzurra (Azure Cave). Capri is adored by travellers, stars and intellectuals alike, popular with tourists because of its beautifully manicured gardens, impossibly blue sea, and bougainvillea tumbling down the facades of the elegant villas that you will see at every turn.
The Roman emperor Tiberius, who self-exiled on the island was one of the first to remain charmed by it: the magnificent villa Jovis, also known as "palazzo di Tiberio" (Tiberius' palace), a 45-minute walk from the small church of St. Michael, belonged to him.
Procida
Procida may be the smallest island in the Gulf of Naples, but what it lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in splendour. Get your camera at the ready as you wander through picturesque streets lined with pastel-coloured houses that simply beg to be captured on film.
An island filled with locals rather than tourists, in Procida you'll get an authentic glimpse Italian nonnas hanging out their washing, butchers laying out their produce for the day, and fisherman getting ready to head out to sea. Relax, sip on a frothy cappuccino while tasting a local pastry, visit the fifteenth-century walled city of Terra Murata and unwind on Postino beach with dramatic cliffs rising in the background.
