Day 1 (Thursday): Arrival in Thessaloniki
Free time to discover more hidden beauty of Thessaloniki. In the evening, you can enjoy the lively and colorful nightlife in the city!
Meet your tour guide at the airport and begin the sightseeing tour of Thessaloniki. You will have the opportunity to see the White Tower, the main landmark of the city, the Galerius Arch, the Rotonda monument, the Old Town (Ano Poli) and the City Walls, from where you will have a marvelous view of Thessaloniki! During your tour, there will be a short stop at Agios Demetrius Byzantine church and its crypt and you will also have the opportunity to visit the Archaeological Museum.
Afterwards, you will be returned to your hotel where you can spend the rest of your day however you like.
Departure for Vergina and visit of the museum, which contains the royal tomb of King Phillip the 2nd, Alexander the Great’s father, along with golden and other artefacts of an incredible beauty and value. Following the Vergina Archaeological site visit, your bus will take you to a small hill nearby the city of Veria where local tradition believes that St. Paul has preached. A small shrine, known as the Altar of St. Paul was erected on this spot. Many religious ceremonies are still held at this altar nowadays. Following the visit to the altar you will be returned to the city of Thessaloniki.
Pozar baths are located close to Loutraki village which is one of the most beautiful resorts of Central Macedonia, found on the footsteps of Mount Kaimaktsalan. The spa is known both for the spa-therapy (warm baths) and also for the therapy involving drinking the water. The area is also very popular for mountain vacations and activities. The water is referred to as ‘’warm HCO3-Ca-Ng-K-B-As’’ with a few metal elements, hypo-tonic spa and the temperature is 37 - 38 °C.
Also, nearby there is the first Speleological Park of Greece in a spectacular natural setting with over 15 caves (several can be visited) with traces of Neolithic life. Free time to enjoy activities for SPA in thermal pools and for shopping in the traditional Greek bazaar. This tour also includes a visit to the town of Edessa (also called the town of waters, with its 100 bridges), the natural park of the waterfalls with the most spectacular waterfall in the Balkans (70m high) is an unforgettable attraction and a place where people take the best photos.
You will have some free time in the area before you a transferred back to Thessaloniki in the early afternoon.
