Your Itinerary In Detail

Day 1 - 3

Day 1: Arrival Windhoek - Namib Desert

After arriving at Windhoek Airport, you will travel to the Namib Desert, the gateway to the Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei. The Namib is the oldest desert in the world and although it stretches along the entire coast of Namibia, the Namib usually refers to the vast sea of sand from Lüderitz to Swakopmund.

For a large sand desert, the landscape is remarkably varied, with the huge red dunes of Sossusvlei being the most famous part. Due to its age, the Namib harbours numerous animal species that cannot be found elsewhere.

Overnight stay in the Namib Desert.

Day 2: Namib Desert: Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon

Shortly after sunrise, you will make your way to the Namib-Naukluft National Park, where the first rays of sunshine colour the sandy mountains in various shades of apricot, red and orange against a crystal-clear blue sky.

Be mesmerised by the surreal Deadvlei, surrounded by some of the highest dunes on earth, and Sossusvlei, where the dry Tsauchab River ends abruptly between the dunes. Take the opportunity to climb one of these majestic dunes and marvel at the desert landscape below.

Afterwards, visit the Sesriem Canyon, a narrow gorge about thirty metres deep.

Overnight stay in the Namib Desert.

Day 3: Namib Desert - Swakopmund

After breakfast, stop at the small settlement of Solitaire on the edge of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, where you will feel like you have arrived in no man's land. Enjoy a cup of coffee here with the delicious apple pie written about in so many travel books before travelling over the deserted, rolling hills of the Kuiseb Valley towards the Atlantic Ocean.

You reach Walvis Bay, where you visit the shallow lagoon, one of the most important wetlands on the African continent and a RAMSAR World Heritage Site. More than 80% of Africa's lesser flamingos breed in this lagoon and offer a breathtaking spectacle when they emerge in groups. Following a scenic route between the dunes and the Atlantic Ocean, you will reach Swakopmund, Namibia's most popular excursion destination. The pleasant climate and beaches attract surfers, fishermen and beach lovers from all over southern Africa.

Overnight stay in Swakopmund.

Day 4 & 5

Day 4: Swakopmund

Swakopmund is often referred to as the 'playground of Namibia'. There are countless activities, from adventures to exploring the mesmerizing Namib Desert and its incredible ecosystem. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this idyllic coastal town with a cup of coffee and freshly baked cake in one of the many cafés.

You can go on a day trip through the desert, take in the breathtaking scenery from the air on a panoramic flight, do a parachute jump over the desert, or go quad biking and sandboarding in the dunes. Take some time to enjoy the atmosphere of this picturesque town with its historic buildings, museums, shops, and beach bars.

Overnight stay in Swakopmund.

Day 5: Swakopmund - Damaraland

Today your journey continues past the Brandberg, Namibia's highest mountain (2,579 metres), into Damaraland, one of the most sparsely populated and geologically diverse areas in Africa. This rugged, rocky environment is home to the shy desert elephant, black rhino, and antelope.

Overnight stay in Damaraland.

Day 6 & 7

Day 6: Damarland: Brandberg

Embark on an enchanting morning drive through the Otjimboyo concession, heading to Namibia's highest peak, the Brandberg. Descend to the dry Ugab River bed for a picturesque picnic under majestic camelthorn trees. Keep an eye out for desert elephants roaming the Damaraland riverbeds, gracefully feeding on tree pods. Experience the beauty and wildlife of this unique landscape in a memorable journey.

Overnight stay in Damaraland.

Day 7: Damaraland - Etosha National Park

Embark on a morning adventure with a local Damara guide to Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site adorned with 6,000-year-old Bushmen engravings. Visit the Damara Living Museum and witness the geological wonder of the Petrified Forest, home to the oldest living desert plant, Welwitschia mirabilis. Finally, journey to Etosha National Park, Namibia's wildlife paradise. We then continue to Namibia's wildlife paradise - the Etosha National Park.

Overnight stay in Etosha NP (west side).

Day 8 - 10

Day 8: Etosha NP

Dedicate your day to the rich wildlife of Etosha National Park, surrounding the parched salt desert, Etosha Pan. Home to four of the Big Five and declared Namibia's first protected nature reserve in 1907, the park offers access to the southern edge of the pan.

Explore the diverse game species, including 114 mammals and over 340 bird species, centered around strategically placed waterholes. Spot giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and a variety of antelope, with the chance to glimpse endangered species like black rhino, cheetah, and impala. A day of captivating wildlife awaits.

Overnight stay in Etosha NP (west side).

Day 9: Etosha NP

Get ready for encounters with new species in Etosha National Park. The expansive Etosha Pan, encircled by the park, spans 130 kilometers in length and up to 50 kilometers in width. During notorious droughts, the pan becomes a challenging, parched landscape, making dry periods ideal for wildlife viewing near waterholes.

Even in the rainy season, the park remains a wildlife paradise, offering glimpses of young foals, cubs, and chicks amidst the vibrant foliage.

Overnight stay in Etosha NP (east side).

Day 10: Etosha NP (east side) - Windhoek - journey home

After breakfast, journey back through the country's heart, traversing the scenic bush savannah en route to the capital.

Time permitting, make a worthwhile stop at Okahandja's famous woodcarving market or Windhoek's arts and crafts market to soak in local creativity and culture.
