Your itinerary in detail

Tokyo

Upon arrival in Tokyo, you will be met after customs by our airport assistant, who will give you all your travel documents and your Pocket WiFi. Enjoy a shuttle Transfer to your hotel where you can check-in (rooms available from 3pm).

Visit the main sights of the Japanese capital! More than a city, Tokyo is a fascinating juxtaposition of heterogeneous districts, skyscrapers, luminous signs, temples and traditional sanctuaries.

The must-sees:

  • The Asakusa district and the Senso-ji temple
  • The Tokyo Skytree, culminating at 634 meters, and the Tokyo Tower, symbol of the city
  • Ueno Park and its many museums
  • The Shibuya and Shinjuku districts
  • Hamarikyu, the Japanese garden between the buildings of Tokyo
  • The gardens of the Imperial Palace
  • Meiji-jingu Shrine
  • Ginza, the chic district of Tokyo
  • Harajuku: the avant-garde district
  • ...and other places detailed in your travel diary.

Enjoy a guided day tour in Tokyo with our expert (optional).

Ishigaki

In Ishigaki, you can sunbathe on the white sand and swim in its turquoise waters... Just enjoy a little bit of heaven! Don't forget to see the unique "Hoshizuna" starry sand!

There are many activities available, to be discussed with your hotel upon arrival: diving with an English-speaking guide, snorkelling...and other suggestions in your travel diary!

Hop on a ferry to discover the small paradise island of Taketomi (20 min ferry ride from the small town of Ishigaki, 5 ferries/hour, tickets included in your package).

On Taketomi, everything can be done on foot or by bike (many bike rentals - no need to book in advance). All the details are in your travel diary!

Okayama (13 & 16-night packages)

From Osaka, head to the feudal city of Okayama located by the Sea of Japan (1h20 by shinkansen, included in your offer).

Drop off your belongings at your hotel and explore the beautiful Korakuen Garden, one of the 3 most famous gardens in Japan during the Edo period. Okayama Castle is also accessible from the garden.

Don’t miss the art island of Naoshima, 1 hour from Okayama: 45 minutes by train (1 change - free with Japan Rail Pass) and 15 minutes by boat (Buy on-site, about €4.50/pers A/R). Details in your travel diary.

Naoshima Island is world-famous for its modern art museums, the architecture of some of its buildings, and the scattered outdoor sculptures throughout its territory.

These numerous museums and buildings were designed by the architect Ando Tadao. You will be impressed, among other things, by Monet's water lilies, displayed in a simple room where you enter without shoes! N.B: access to one of the museums, the Chichu Art Museum, is subject to reservation.

Return to Okayama at the end of the day by the same route as in the morning, in the middle of the Japanese countryside.

If you consider yourself less of an artist and more of a romantic, the city of Kurashiki, less than 20 minutes by JR train from Okayama, will seduce you!

Osaka (13 & 16-night packages)

After Ishigaki, head to the vibrant city Osaka!

These are some must-see places:

  • The medieval castle of Osaka, with its park full of plum and cherry trees
  • The city centre and its Nakanoshima Island, with its rose park in the middle of the buildings
  • Utsubo Park, an oasis of freshness in the business district
  • Rendezvous in Umeda, temple of Japanese style shopping
  • End up at the Umeda Sky building at dusk for a 360° view of Kansai (including Kyoto on a clear day!)
  • The Osaka Kaiyûkan aquarium, the largest aquarium in the world in terms of volume
  • The Tennoji district and its Shitenno-ji Buddhist temple, one of the oldest in Japan
  • Shinseikai, with retro charm
  • DenDen machi, the technologeek village
  • Don’t forget to go to Dotonbori, the liveliest district and its unparalleled atmosphere ! Taste Osaka's specialties: takoyaki, okonomiyaki and many others.

16-night package

In the morning, have your luggage sent to the hotel in Kyoto (see luggage transfer section, more details in your travel guide), so you can travel light with a small bag for your overnight stay in Miyajima.

Head to Hiroshima by train (included in your pass, about 1h), and take a local train and ferry (included as well). The island is around 30km from the city, a journey of around 45 minutes. Take the opportunity to visit the Itsukushima Shrine, a must-see! The island is one of Japan's most visited sites and is famous for the many paths that criss-cross the island.

The must-see sites:

  • Itsukushima-jinja shrine and its large gate (Ootorii).

  • Daishô-in temple
  • Homotsukan treasure pavilion
  • Five-storey Gojû-no-tô pagoda
  • Egami House
  • View of the bay from Mount Misen, Shishi-no-iwa

Head to Kyoto from Ishigaki or Okayama depending on your package.

The Japan Rail Pass allows you to travel by train on JR routes during its period of validity, such as trips departing from Kyoto/Osaka, or trips departing from Tokyo (Nikko and Kamakura), as well as the boat and train from Hiroshima to Miyajima.

Note: It is not necessary to have a Japan Rail Pass that covers the whole duration of your stay. Indeed, it is profitable only if it is used for long journeys between the different steps of the stay (especially by Shinkansen) which are very expensive.

In large cities like Tokyo, not all public transport are covered by the Japan Rail Pass and trains are relatively cheap. Thus, providing you with a Japan Rail Pass lasting more than 7 days would not be profitable but, on the contrary, would significantly increase the cost of your journey.

What is a Japan Rail Pass?

The Japan Rail Pass is a special train pass for foreign travelers visiting Japan. This pass allows unlimited travel for 7 or 14 consecutive days on all Japan Railways (JR) trains throughout Japan.

With your Japan Rail Pass in hand, all you have to do is go to the station, show your Pass to the controller at the entrance gates and board any JR train. Details in your travelog.

The Japan Rail Pass does not cover (which are not included in your offer):

  • Subway and buses in Tokyo and Kyoto (you can pay by prepaid transportation card, optional)
  • Private lines (that are not JR)
  • Transfer station ↔ hotels (by foot, bus, taxis or subway)
  • Nozomi and Mizuho (very quick Shinkansen)
  • Train journeys done outside of pass validity
