Your destinations —
Ubud
When you think of Bali, images of Ubud's towering temples and lush, green rice terraces are often dreamt up. While the centre of Ubud's town is busy with tourists, traditional craft shops and cultural landmarks, the real draw of Ubud lies in its tranquil outskirts, which are rich in hypnotic and stunningly scenic natural beauty. As the heartland of the island, Ubud is ideal for both those who want a total escape from their daily life, and those who wish to uncover the ancient secrets of Balinese culture.
Undoubtedly, a must-see spot on any tourist's list is the Ubud Monkey Forest, where over 700 long-tailed macaques share their spiritual home with daily visitors. In addition to the lively residents, the forest boasts 186 different species of tree and several sacred temples. Another Ubud highlight is the Tegallalang Rice Terrace, a prime photo-stop that showcases some of the most beautiful terraced fields in all of Southeast Asia.
We highly recommend heading here to enjoy the absolute best of Bali's nature - it also promises a cool, breezy atmosphere which is more than welcome following a break at the beach.
Gili Trawangan
With its 15 km², Gili Trawangan is the largest of the three islands that lie off Bali and Lombok. It will provide you with an exotic immersion in the very heart of Indonesian culture. The sand is soft and white, the water is crystal clear and the temperature perfect... Welcome to paradise.
At its centre, a small hill will allow you to admire a breathtaking view of Gili Meno and Gili Air, with Lombok and Mount Rinjani as a backdrop.
Whether you are snorkeling with turtles, swimming in crystal clear water, scuba diving - the Gili Islands are famous for their beautiful coral reefs and diverse marine life - you will certainly fall in love with this nugget off Lombok.
Finally, the sunsets in the Gili Islands are ranked among the most beautiful of all. To admire them in full every night, there are tons of little bars, beach hotels, cafes along the 'sunset side'. End your days at the night market, where the fresh, inexpensive food is really tasty.
Nusa Dua
Meaning 'Two Islands', Nusa Dua is located on a lush peninsula in Southern Bali. Encompassing various five-star resort developments, Nusa Dua boasts a sense of exclusivity, high-end facilities and an exciting array of watersports nearby. The beaches of Bali are famed for surfing, diving and snorkelling, so watersports lovers will be in their element.
The dining and bar scene in nearby Kuta and Seminyak is also well known for being outstanding, with chic sunset view bars and world-class gourmet restaurants lining the shores of the most popular tourist spots.
