If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of nocturnal predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas or jackals roaming the savannah. But birdwatchers will also be in for a treat with hundreds of species of birds.
The Etosha Basin is a large salt pan which, depending on the season, is dry and dusty in the midday heat or attracts thousands of migratory birds after heavy rain.

DAY 5: DAMARALAND (APPROX. 328 KILOMETRES)
Drive to Damaraland. Discover its magnificent landscapes, made up of inselbergs, and isolated island-shaped rocks. As you approach Uis, you will admire the country's highest mountain, the Brandberg, which at 2,573 metres is home to Bushman paintings, the most famous of which is the White Lady.

Leaving the Walvis Waterfront, we take a short break at the Walvis Bay lagoon to observe the masses of flamingos and other coastal birds that reside in and around the lagoon at different times of the year.
Several archaeological sites dating back a thousand years exist on the site. Human activities include fishing, guano collection and hunting. If our vehicles are unable to drive along the beach to Sandwich Harbour due to high tide, you will have the opportunity to view the lagoon area from one of our many beautiful vantage points and have time to walk and explore. We'll have time to walk and explore. We'll have time to stop along the way for photos.
When it's time to eat, your guide simply finds a suitable spot to stop and serve a selection of oysters and snacks along with sparkling wine, beers and soft drinks. We usually do this at the top of a high dune overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, between the dunes or on the beach.
Our excursion will introduce us to the typical flora and fauna of the region. Animals that have adapted to the desert include the black-backed jackal, the fog beetle, the dancing spider (white lady of the Namib), the golden mole, the flat-nosed lizard, the palm gecko, the springbok, the oryx, the brown hyena and the ostrich.
The return route passes spectacularly high dunes and guests can experience an exhilarating 4x4 drive, before returning to the beach for an easy cruise home.
