Your itinerary in detail

Days 1-3

Day 1: Arrival Windhoek

  • Upon arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed by a staff member and briefed on your upcoming adventure.
  • Transfer to Windhoek, a multicultural city bustling with life, surprising visitors with a combination of European architecture and the lively beat of African culture. The city has a rich cultural life where activities happily alternate into interesting combinations.
  • In the Katutura township you will be introduced to the sounds and smells of Africa culminating in the Tukondjeni Market, a busy place, where one can buy traditional Namibian food.

Overnight stay with breakfast in Windhoek

Day 2: Windhoek - Sesriem - Sossusvlei

  • Set off towards the desert.
  • Drive into the Namib-Naukluft National Park via the Sesriem Gate, marvelling at sandy mountains in a variety of apricot, red and orange, set against a crisp blue skyline.
  • Be enchanted by the surreal Deadvlei, surrounded by some of the tallest dunes on earth, and Sossusvlei, where the dry Tsauchab River ends abruptly among the dunes.
  • Take the opportunity to climb one of these majestic dunes and admire the desert landscape below.

Overnight stay with breakfast near Sesriem

Day 3: Sossusvlei

  • Continue exploring in the Sossusvlei with its flamboyant colours and stunning scenery.
  • Lunch at the lodge
  • Visit the Sesriem Canyon in the afternoon. This 50-metre-deep canyon was carved by the Tsauchab River and was a vital site for the Nama, Herero and Damara peoples. Sesriem means "6 belts", and refers to the belts needed to hoist buckets of water up from the gorge. Over the centuries, the presence of water has often caused strife between the peoples, but today birds mainly inhabit this exceptional place.

Days 4-5

Day 4: Sossusvlei - Namib Desert - Swakopmund

  • Visit Walvis Bay, a small port town on the Namibian coast. The well-sheltered lagoon is one of the 10 most important wetlands on the African coast and home to up to 80,000 birds in summer, including flamingos, pelicans and cormorants.

  • Enjoy the relaxed pace of this idyllic coastal town with a cup of coffee and freshly baked cake in one of the many cafés. Take your time to soak up the atmosphere of this picturesque town with its historic buildings, museums, shopping arcades and beach bars.

Day 5: Swakopmund - Twyfelfontein

  • Departure to Damaraland. Vast, untamed and rugged Damaraland is an exceptionally beautiful area with open plains and spectacular rock formations.
  • In Damaraland, plants and animals have adapted to the harsh environment over millennia. The local population is of mixed ancestry, but most consider themselves Damara, a unique group of people who recognised the value of wildlife on their land and formed a Community Wildlife Conservancy to protect it. Today, it is one of the last places in southern Africa where wildlife still roams freely as it did thousands of years ago, a true wilderness.
  • Be sure not to miss the main attractions, including Spitzkoppe, the Brandberg, Twyfelfontein, Vingerklip and the Petrified Forest.
  • During your stay in this region, you will definitely come into contact with the Damara people, who use a language characterised by its famous clicks, and you might even meet the 'desert elephants'.
  • Visit Twyfelfontein, with the most spectacular collection of petroglyphs and engravings in Africa.

  • Today is the day to get your camera ready, as you'll trek into Etosha National Park full of wildlife. Spotted, striped, with long necks, short legs... there's a creature to discover behind every bush, in every nook and cranny.
  • For more than 100 years, zebras, elephants, giraffes, oryxes, wildebeests, springboks, kudu and other animals have roamed the park in peace.
  • With a bit of luck, you may spot the more nocturnal predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas or jackals.
  • Birdwatchers will enjoy plenty of opportunities for identifying more unusual 'feathered friends'...

Day 7: Etosha National Park

These include: the impressive Fish River Canyon; the vast Etosha National Park teeming with abundant wildlife, such as lions, desert-adapted elephants and the Hartmann's Mountain Zebra; the hauntingly beautiful Kalahari Desert; and of course the Namib Desert stretching for over 2000 km along the magnificent Atlantic Coast.
