Mandalay is still the centre of Burmese culture. The city is named after the hill that peaks 236 m, located at the North-East of the Royal Palace. Mandalay is also the most "Burmese" city in Myanmar, surrounded by the four ancient cities of Amarapura, Sagaing, Ava and Mingun.
