Your Itinerary in Detail

Day 1-3

Day 1: Welcome to Delhi! Upon arrival, you will be met at the airport and then transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: After breakfast at your hotel, it's time to visit Old Delhi. You will see The Red Fort, the Jama Masjid one of the largest mosques in the world, Chandni Chowk the shopping district and; in the heart of the old city, the Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated.

It's now time to explore New Delhi. Visit the Qutub minar, an extraordinary minaret built in 1199, the tallest minaret in the world (72.55 m) where we find the reproduction of verses from the Koran on each of the first three floors built while red sandstone.

Day 3: Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before heading to Mandawa (a 6-hour drive approx.), a small principality. Mandawa lived through a period of great splendour between the middle of the 18th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Today, surrounded by sand dunes, the small town of Mandawa still contains quite extraordinary Havelis. Havelis were residences built by wealthy merchants whose elaborate architecture gives the appearance of small palaces rather than simple houses. Their walls are decorated with frescoes with various decorative motifs: religious, secular, and even courtly scenes, illustrations of stories or legends, and portraits.

Day 4-5

Day 4: Enjoy breakfast before departing for Jodhpur. In the afternoon, visit Jodhpur, also called "the blue city" because of the coating of its houses. This city in the heart of the desert is nestled at the foot of a fortress, an enormous millstone of dark red sandstone where the forces of many conquerors were worn away. It is like a comforting oasis for travellers who have just crossed the Thar Desert! The old town is surrounded by a wall pierced with seven gates, which was erected around the middle of the 16th century over a perimeter of nearly 10 km, which also protects it from the sand.

You can visit the magnificent Fort Mehrangarh, named after its current owner, the Maharajah of Jodhpur. Built at the top of a hill overlooking the city, it opens thanks to a succession of seven monumental gates. You can discover many interior courtyards, surrounded by palaces with sculpted facades. Many halls contain collections of miniatures, the Takhat Mahal hall is fully decorated with mirrors and paintings, with coloured glass balls hanging from the ceiling and the “Jankhi Mahal” contains an amazing collection of royal cradles.

Day 5: Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then take the road for around 340 km (6h30) to head to Jaipur (the pink city among the Rajputs, the pink colour symbolises hospitality), the capital of Rajasthan.

You can either relax for the rest of the day or visit the capital. It is surrounded by an immense wall. Inside, you will find its bazaars buzzing with a thousand activities, its sumptuous temples...

Day 6-7

Day 7: Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel, then set off to explore beautiful Jaipur. Stop in front of the Palace of the Wind "Hawa Mahal" with its baroque facade and architecture that allowed the women of the court to contemplate the spectacle of the street away from prying eyes.

Continue your trip with an excursion to Amber Fort, the residence of the Maharajahs. Seeing the defence forts that surround the place, you can imagine the power of the character. Ascent to the ramparts in 4x4.

Visit the Palace with its rooms set with mirrors and the old harem, a veritable labyrinth. You will also have the opportunity to attend the Puja at the Kali temple. The Puja is the time of prayers according to Hindu rites.

Note: You can only enter the temple barefoot and without leather goods on you.

Visit of the astronomical observatory "Jantar Mantar", the witness of Maharaja Jaisingh II's passion for astronomy. He had several observatories built, including that of Jaipur (1728-33). These monumental instruments make it possible to read the latitudes, longitudes and distances between celestial bodies, the time corresponding to the meridian of Jaipur.

And to finish off the day, enjoy a rickshaw-ride through the old town!

Day 7: After breakfast, it's time to hit the road to head to Agra. Along the way, you will stop at Fatehpur Sikri, the former capital of the time of Mughal Emperor Akbar. With a more baroque architecture than the Red Fort, this capital was abandoned a few years after its construction. Resulting of the synthesis of various styles, Indo-Muslim and Hindu, it is one of the most spectacular sites. Visit the Great Mosque, with the tomb of Sheikh Salim Chishti, the Jewel House also named Diwan-I-Khas (Hall of Audiences) containing Akbar's pillar.

Then continue to Agra, check into your hotel and relax or visit the Agra Fort.

Day 8-9

Day 8: Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Then, visit the famous Taj Mahal (closed every Saturday), the tourist emblem of India. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan, in memory of his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The construction of the Taj Mahal was undertaken the same year and was not completed until 1653. The workers, 20,000 in total, were recruited from all over India as well as from Central Asia.

Later, you will be driven to New Delhi (204 kms +- 4h30). Upon arrival, enjoy some free time to rest.

Day 9: Your journey has come to an end... After breakfast, it's time to head to the airport to catch your return flight.

Your Destination

New Delhi

A trip to New Delhi, India's dynamic capital, will introduce you to teeming bazaars, tree-lined boulevards, fascinating temples and historically important mosques. Somewhere between a place of intense spirituality and a dynamic eastern metropolis, this city offers something for all its visitors.

Its turbulent history is reflected in a wide variety of architectural styles, which testify to how the city has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. To see an example of the city's diverse cultural heritage, visit the Qutab Minar. This sandstone and marble brick minaret marked the beginning of Muslim rule in India. A short distance away, walkable by rickshaw, is the Presidential Palace (Rashtrapati Bhavan), where you can see the English and Indian architectural influences that characterise much of New Delhi. Walking along Rajpath Avenue (the King's Way), one can admire the Gateway of India, the monument to the Indian nation.
